Guest guest
Hello all, I purchased Parashara's Light 7.0 hoping that I could use the software to help me learn vedic astrology. When I opened the application, it was like looking at an ocean full of potential discoveries, only that the maps are all in Greek, and there are sooo many of them! So many features! I don't know where to begin. Have any of you used the software and have you been happy with it? How would you recommend a novice to make use of the software for learning purposes? Where should I start? Any advise on this would be very much appreciated. Felicia, the Newbie

Now the program is so complex and with all the screen options it's confusing even for professionals. But since you have the program, let's get a recognizable chart on the screen: Go to Options/chart style (Choose circular) Then go to Optinos/system, go to the bottom of the list and check 9:00 o'clock for " Ascendant in Circular Chart. " O.K.,now you have a circular chart. Next go to fonts, and choose AstroLite or Lightbasic (I forget what the glyph font is exactly). I have AstroLite insalled, but I think I copied it from an older file.) Any how, choose the glyph font for the first three blanks. Now you have a circular chart with western style glyphs. Now set the screen so the chart is nice and big and easy to read. You do this by clicking on the screen, and you get a choice of sizes. Now I have never figured out these stupid screen blocks, so you'll have to experiment to get a nice big circular chart. Now to get degrees in the chart, click on the chart. Several tables will come up. Highlight: Chart with degrees (col 1) Birth (col 2) Jamna-all areas of life (col 4) Now you should have the standard circular chart that you can read. You can click on a planet or sign and get some information. To be perfectly honest with you, PL 7 is not a good program for beginners. I rarely use it and prefer a much older version of the program. I think the company really messed up with this version. I think I'd try to return it if I were you. Just tell them it's incomprehensible since you know nothing about Jyotish. If you can't return it, then hit the manual and try to get decent readable screens. My little notebook makes almost any division of the screen unreadable. I can't seem to get a nice big natal chart like I could on the older versions of PL. I'm very sorry that I upgraded to this version since I can't really use it. Also the nice printouts I made for the earlier versions won't work with this version. Solar Fire will do just fine for a while, and you can get double wheels for solar returns and comparisons. Guest guest
Hi Therese, Looks like I'm stuck with Parashara's Light 7.0. I suppose I just need to take small steps. Last night I didn't get a chance to get into the program. Tonight, I plan to follow your directions and create a circular chart as my first step in learning Jyotish via this tool. Will let you know how it goes... Thanks for taking the time to give me advice on how to tackle this tool... I haven't looked it for awhile, and never really used it, so my comments have to be taken with a grain of salt. However, I've spent a little more time with it and learned that the sizing only applies to the chart in question. So if you ask for the natal chart and ask for it to be 1X2, then it will come up in a square (circular chart in a square) on the left side of the screen. What I've done because I always want to see the navamsa, is put the navamsa (with degrees) on the left (1x2), then I ask for the bhava (equal house) chart on the right(2X2). That gives a bigger natal chart. Or if you want whole sign houses, then you just ask for the natal chart in place of the bhava. Then at the top of the screen (on screen 1 of 300...who needs 300 screens???) I put the dasas and shadbala. If you have more questions, I'm sure Sari or I can answer them. I had to call the PL company to get a password to install PL6. I could tell that Mihael (spelling?) was stressed from all the complaints he's been getting about Vista and a few other PL problems.
