Sari: My newest tentative theory about dignities is that when a planet is in its detriment (and I do think that detriments work sidereally), it's simply weak, not displaying its natural qualities very visibly (for example my husband's Venus is in sidereal Aries and he's one of the most unsocial persons I know); when a planet is in its own domicile, it's simply strong. But when a planet is in its fall, it behaves in a exaggerated, immoderate, " undignified " way (it fights for survival); and when it's in its exaltation, it behaves in a dignified, even lofty way. Guest guest
I think that whether a planet is exalted, dignigified, or fallen may just have to do with the nature of the experiences it brings into the life, rather than personality traits. For example, if someone has a fallen planet on the asc they may have something wrong with their physical body. I know someone with a very visable birth defect who has Mars in Cancer plunk on the asc, but he has the good Mars qualiies of being hardworking, directed etc. Let's take Hillary's horoscope. She has Mars in Cancer and there's no lack of doggedness or determination. Consider too, the houses ruled by the planet. Whether or not her goals will be realized remains to be seen. A fallen 5th house ruler may indicate problems with offspring or no offspring. And so on and so forth. ....Bettina _____ On Behalf Of Sari M Monday, March 17, 2008 6:24 AM Re: Dignities in astrology Therese wrote: > Mars in Cancer would be likely to act unlike itself whereas Mars in Aries > or Capricorn would be very strong, not necessarily in a good way since > Mars > is a malefic. So much to study...Venus in Aries could be unsocial because sidereal Aries is an internalized sign that consults within itself.
