Guest guest
Therese, I'd like to clarify a few points from my side of the discussion relative to my predictive practices. One example cannot convey all of the factors I consider to be contributive to that end. Therese noted: " The CD point may be the major contribution from you upcoming book. " REPLY: Actually, I consider the CD point to be a casual result of observation and a supportive factor in the process I use, but not the major or a major contribution of the book. The MC-SOLAR CYCLE is the primary underpinning of the whole process! The MC-SOLAR CYCLE was not named as such in Fagan's Primer of Sidereal Astrology, and was noted as part of his mathematical steps concerning the PSSR charts. In his rush to explore the application in his " new " Sidereal concepts he seems to have passed right by this central concept. Surely, the Tropical astrologers have not made much of this cycle even though some have commented on the changes in the Solar Return angles and sun position from year to year. The MC-SOLAR CYCLE has its obvious roots in those successive S/R charts and we all technically understand that those Sun and MC positions can be advanced at two different-but-interconnected rates which produce the basis for PSSR charts. What I believe we fail to fully appreciate is that these ever changing angles and cycle have deeper meanings: A) The cycle emphasizes the integration of the natal, solar return and PSSR charts. We can see that the natal chart represents a basic orientation towards ones life which we can call both " potential " and a basic operating mode. The Solar Return is a marker point, as is an MC Return chart, in that ever-continuing cycle --- it therefore can be seen as a " theme or focus " chart in which specific components of the natal chart are brought forward to be experienced and to contribute to the development of the natal chart's " potential. " The PSSR chart (all or any of them during our S/R year) represents the opportunity for expression, experience, development, challenge and progress when the angles and any natal/transit planets combine within that chart. B) The cycle of angular movement brings an essential ebb and flow into our lives wherein natal planets, transiting planets, the S/R chart's reorientation of Sun/MC (time/place) all come to us. The angular movement brings up the obvious MC-Return situation as well as the less-obvious but equally important angles-contacting-angles situation. This has been unrecognized and/or under-appreciated by almost all sidereal astrologers, in my view. It was this phenomena that started my exploration into Solar Returns over my-then favorite Lunar Return explorations. The angualr combinations have interpretive meaning! This goes far beyond planets-at-angles, as it deals with how we deal with the chart's reorientation and our mirroring reorientation as to how we see and deal with the world! C) The integration of the natal-s/r-PSSR charts through the MC-SOLAR CYCLE brings the planet-patterns and planet-positions forward into the next more-focused chart when any of those components are angular. This is where the " similarity patterns " (groupings of specific planets in one chart appearing more-or-less and regrouped in another chart) emphasize the role of natal conditioning, solar return opportunity and daily experience as being related and necessary to our growth and development. We can't experience the potential of the natal chart all at once. We often have to repeat those experiences in order to fully incorporate them into our lives. So, I have both elevated the importance of " similarity patterns " and demonstrated a way to illustrate them for interpretive practices in my book. I know we all appreciate the fact that a Sun-square-Mars pattern in a natal chart can be activated by transits in some cases. But " similarity patterns " advance that concept as a means of integrating the whole interpretive process (the whole natal, s/r, PSSR chart(s)) so that we can better define and time the likely experiences we face on a given day. Therese, I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify my approach to the predictive and timing process. I feel that " prediction " is a popular phrase for what some of us attempt to do, but that " event definition and timing " might be a more accurate phrase. This does require, as you so astutely noted, walking a fine line between the psychological approach so many of us have had thrust upon us and a more factual/actual/event/action/inherent approach that the planet symbolism and chart-type and chart-orientation of these " newer " practices can offer us. Thanks again for being so open-minded and receptive to earnest efforts. Dave
Guest guest
Thanks for the clarification, Dave. Very clear and well written. A keeper. I only wish I had more time to work with this type of technique. If fate adds many more years to my life, I'll have time when my current research is finished. Since I have a history of incomplete projects, I'm trying mightily to stay on track this time. I'm very conscious of the passing years. Each year goes by in about a month. I'm wondering how many siderealists have been following your lead. I know they'll be irritated with the tropical zodiac, even though they don't pay much attention to signs. But I hope they'll see the value of the methods. Of course, as you've said, you're aiming for the much larger tropical community. I admit a firm sidereal bias, and I don't like to read anything that references tropical signs. I tend to agree with Cyril Fagan: There is no tropical zodiac. No doubt that's why I volunteered to monitor this forum, which is owned by someone else. Yet some of the Jyotish people, led by Ernst Wilhelm, are claiming Jyotish techniques work better in the tropical zodiac! It will be interesting to see how all this plays out. Wilhelm believes (at present) that India's original zodiac was tropical.
