Dear Girish Menon,

I must thank you for pointing out the source of this assumption. I am giving

below the slokas quoted in Uttarakalamritha.

bhR^igvarkii yadi tungabhe svabhavane varggottamaadau sthitau

tulyauyogakarau tathaiva balinau tau chenmithopaakagau

bhuupaalo dhanadopamo.apisatataM bhikshaashanoniShkalaH

tatraikastu balii parastu vibalashchedviiryavaan yogadaH

The conditions that are mentioned here

A) Both the Saturn & Venus should be equally strong

B) They should be in Exaltation or own sign or Vargottamamsa

C) Both should be yoga karakas

If you look closely at the above, you will find that the third condition exists

for signs owned by Saturn & Venus Ie: Makara, Kumbha , Vrishabha & Thula. Both

do not become yoga karaka TOGETHER for no other signs.

so the question now is whether this rule is applicable for the above sign only.

Since the " tathaiva " is used, it is sure that for confering the effect as

mentioned, all the conditions must satisfy. That is it is not enough if any of

the above conditions are met.

Finally the whole effect depends upon on one factor

Strength of Saturn = Strength of Venus.

Strength of planets is according to shadbala.

from the above we can see that the chances of occurence of satisfying all the

conditions are very rare.

Also we have to keep in mind that this is not applicable to other 8 signs.

D) one is strong and the other is weak. The result is given as " yogadaH " .

Strictly speaking this word simply implies that any one will confer effects

attibuted to them, which need not be always good also.

The logic here might be that when two planets have equal strengths both gets

cancelled. This view is mentioned where it is said if two exalted aspect each

other, the person lives in poverty. In the Dasa scheme also this rule could be

applied to some extant and with caution.

tau dvaavapyabalau vyayaaShTaripugau talbhaavapau vaapital

tatbhaaveshayutau tadaa shubhakarau saukhyapradau bhogadau

ekasstbhavanaadhipastadaparashchedduShTabhaaveshvar-

staavapyatra suyogadaavatibalau tau chenmahaasaukhyadau..

In this verse the conditions are

If the above two planets are

A) occupy 12 - 8 - 6 signs without strength

B) or they are the lords of 12 - 8 - 6 signs

C) or they are associated  with the lords of 12 - 8- 6 th signs

The native shall be confortable & happy even if one of them is disthanadhipathy.

It should be noted that it is not mentioned whether the 12-8-6 is from lagna

/chandra or from the dasa lord.

D) Even if one of them is the lord of an Ishta bhava & the other dushta bhava

(12-8-6) they shall confer great confort during their dasa & sub periods.

The conditions (B) & (D) indicates that this could be applied to any  of the 12

signs.

The only condition that may be common here the strength of both which should be

very LESS.

Yes this seems to be unnatural effects of two planets that are natual friends

and yoga karakas.

A word of caution: Uttarakalamritha is NOT considered a authentic work

particularly in kerala. This is basically an interpolation work, thories taken

from other works like Parasara Hora, Jaimini etc. But the biggest issue some of

the exception stated both the sages has not been incorporated in this work.

Hence it is adviced to be vary carefull when appying these in real situations.

It is neither a pure work on Astrology alone, because there many chapters

pertaining to rituals not related with Astrology.

Respected Sureshji

I have not quoted from authentic script.

This from the book of K.N.Rao

Analysing horoscopes through modern techniques

Pg:340 which says

" According to Uttarkalamitra if Saturn and Venus are both strong and becomes

yogakaraka results of their dasha and antar are very unfavourable.

Under such conditions the native will be as good as a beggar even though he may

be rich like kuber.

But if one is strong and another is weak the native will enjoy good results

according to character and strength of stronger planet.

If both of them be weak and are posited 6, 8 and 12 or one of them is situated

in 6th or 8th place place or another, or they own any dusthan or are posited

there or associated with lord of dusthan the results of their dasha ao antar

will be exceptionally good.

Saturn and Venus dasas as given by Kalidasa in Uttarkalamitra Venus and Saturn

in their mutual sub periods give good results if they are in 6, 8, and 12 from

each other or in conjunction in such houses, with one or both debilitated or a

malefic for the horoscope.

This rather amusing and seemingly paradoxical operation of Venus and Saturn is

an exception to the general rule. But venus and Saturn are close friends as is

obvious that each one is yogakaraka in Capri and Aqua lagna and Saturn is

yogakaraka in signs wuth lagna of Venus Taurus and Libra "

Sir based on your personal experience do you find this particular clause to be

correct

Thanks and regards

Girish
