Guest guest
Dear Dhananjayan ji, That is exactly right and correct only if we understand that " Sun's movement symbolically represent Earth's movement " as per indian astronomy. Thus Lagna signify " Angle of revolution of earth " . This is the almost same as saying " Lagna means the rising sign (and degree) " , i.e. Rasinam Udayo lagna (Ascendent). But in a way treating Lagna as " Angle of revolution of earth " (instead of Asc) is still better because then we can even find a lagna for places falling in polar regions. Those who wanted to dissociate Angle of revolution of earth (which is more related to the perpendicular line joining poll and sun) than associating Lagna with a point in ecliptic (i.e.Asc; note that the whole of ecliptic is NOT visible in polar regions, and that all signs CANNOT be a Ascendant in polar regions and also that facts like 'retro lagna', 'lagna jump' etc comes into play), created a concept called 'Hora Lagna' (Hour Angle) in ancient period itself. A whole book dealing with this subject is available. I don't want talk about this in detail here, but still I agree and accept that it (considering hour angle, or devising new methods to notate 'angle of revelation of earth') is a better scientific approach. The concept of Lagna as Ascendant is more applicable to equatorial regions - since Asc and 'angle of revolution of earth' is more or less represent the same in equatorial regions. But for polar regions the concept of Hora Lagna (Hour Angle) is better since that indicate the 'Angle of revolution of earth' there in a more better way - I think.
