Some questions on functional natural benefics

Dear Gurujans,

 

I have some very basic doubts related to natural and functional malefics.

 

I have read conflicting notes about which lords are functional benefics and

malefics for a horoscope. In one place I read that lords of dusthanas are always

functional malefics, lords of trikons are functional benefics and lords of

quadrants are neutral. But I have also read things that contradict this. Can

someone please tell me which house lords are functional benefics and which are

functional malefics.

 

What is the effect when a functional malefic planet becomes strong by being

vargottam, or by being exalted in the natal or navamsa chart?
