Guest guest Posted March 30, 2010 Report Share Posted March 30, 2010 Dear list I am posting the first shloka of VarhaHora which is also Known as Brihat Jataka.This is a prayer to surya bhagavan -The Sun God and Acharya Mihira being very brilliant and intelligent he says his varahHora has little words but meanings r very very exhustiv ( tru out his hora shri Varhamihira maintains this pattern and only tru a real guru all meanings can b understood -sure sisya also has the mind & Hardwork frm his side to grasp it ) i will try to discuss this sloka and my english is very poor and i request shri sreenadhji to help me in editing & the post to look more readable and graspable to others ) here in the shloka it deals with complete subjuct of astrology ,its utility ,purpose and scope and even philosophical foundation of astrology etc.Tho it look as if a simple prayer . here is sloka murtitwe parikalpitaH shashabhR^ito vartmaa punarjanmanaam aatmetyaatmavidaam kratuscha yajataam bhartaamarajyotiShaam . lokaanaam praLayodayastitivibhuschaanekadhaa yaH shruutau vaacham nassa dadhaatu naikakiraNaH trailokyadiipo raviH The meaning in direct way we can loosely translate as I salute The lord who is the cause of drisya roopa of Moon ,he who is the giver of Moksha by giving mukti marga by not causing punarjanma,who is atma swaroopa of all atma jnanies ( realised souls ),he who accept the offerings of doers of havan /yagna and giv them good fruits of their actions ,he who is ruler all Deva s in heaven and other jyothir gola s ( planets or graha s )in universe ,he who is the cause of all creation ,sustainence and destruction of the 3 world s such as heaven (swarga ),Bhoomi and patala Loka s and he who has been described in all sruti and smriti in various ways ( in veda ,purana s and upanishats etc ) and he who givs us his mutiple rays ( 1000s of )and with it he who lights entire world like a lamp and i salute to him and let him giv me Vag vaibhava (let my words shine and understandble and acceptable to all ) A more detailed explanation i will try to post soon on each sanskrit words .let me try if i can do it thanks and rgrds sunil nair This sloka must b recited by all astrologers who wants to get real grasp of jyothisha and in kerala they does like a surya mantra b4 every sitting for delination and daily in morning and evening in their poojas along with other mantras they got initiated by their guru of astrology and Kula guru Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
