Guest guest
Dear members; Birth and Death; Joy and Sorrow; dance hand in hand every moment. Merry Christmas to all; but these 3 days 24-25-26 days of December 2009 are being observed as a day for remembering some tragic events also. On these days 11-12-13 paus of 1705AD, two younger sons,of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh Ji aged about 6, Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh Ji aged about 9 and their grandmother,Mata Gujari Ji sacrificed their lives on the alter of faith. At least we must acknowledge and remember these great deeds. Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan of Malerkotla was a feudal ally of Nawab Wazir Khan, his brother Khizar Khan was killed in a battle with Guru Gobind Singh ji; Nawab Wazir Khan’s forces captured Sahibzadas alongwith their grandmother Mata Gujari. It was proposed that Nawab Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan should avenge the death of his brother by taking lives of Guruji’s sons. But Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan Khan protested loudly at this decision as it was against the tenets of Islam and walked out of the court. “BADLA HI LENA HOGA TO HUM LENGE BAAP SE, KHUDA MARHOOM RAKHE HUMN KO AAISEY PAAP SE†but the adamant Wazir Khan approved the punishment suggested by Qazi without any amendment. The Sahibzadas were slain after the attempt at bricking them alive in the foundation of the wall failed Mata Gujri ji also breathed her last. Diwan Todar Mal purchased the piece of land for setting up their pyre for cremation with gold coins. The land required for the martyred children would be approximately of 2.0m by 2.0m a total area of 40,000 cm squared if laid next to each other. Add to this the area required for Mata Ji (2.0m by 1.5m) if the coins were laid horizontally then to cover this area would require around 7800 gold coins. Now, if the coins had to be stacked vertically then possibly 10 coins would be needed to cover the 9cm squared area, so vertically 7800 x 10 coins would be required, or 78,000. That is an awful lot of gold coins today; one can only imagine how much they were worth three hundred years ago. It is safe to say it was probably his life’s savings. Maybe he had to beg and borrow to raise the total amount, who knows, but the fact remains this was truly a noble deed. (Kindly see the recent picture of his haveli named Jahaz Haveli attached alongwith this post.) But for this he had lose the peace and prosperity for his own family. Bankrupt and a victim of Nawab Wazir Khan’s wrath the family fled their beautiful home and eventually faded into oblivion. Baba Moti Ram Mehra was a cook of Wazir Khan. He could not bear the Sahibzadas sleeping hungry. He came home and told his family that he would serve milk and fresh water to these great prisoners. His mother and wife were scared and tried to persuade him not to take such a step. Bibi Bholi, his wife, told him that the Wazir Khan had made an announcement in the town that whoever tried to help and serve any type of food to the sons of the tenth Guru, he along with his family would be crushed alive in a Kohlu, (the oil squeezer). This information could not change the resolve of Baba ji. Sensing his determination, his wife gave him her silver jewellery and some coins and requested him to bribe the gate man of the prison fort and request him to keep it act a secret.Baba Moti Ram served milk and water to the Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji for three nights. Nawab Wazir Khan got the information that his servant (Cook) had served the prisoners with milk and water. Baba Moti Ram Mehra, his mother, wife and a little son were arrested, consequently Baba Moti Ram Mehra along with his father was sentenced to death by being squeezed in a Kohlu (oil press). Kindly see their resolve; their determination and their sacrifice. “ULLFAT KE YEH JALWE , KABHIE DEKHE NAHIN HUMNE; DEKHNA EK BAAT, SUNNEY BHI NAHIN HUMNE.†Again it was an unbiased Muslim poet Hakim Allah Yaar Khan who immortalized this great saga by by writing Ganj-e-shaheedan and Shaheedan-e-wafa in 1913-15 AD. “BAS EK TIRATH HAI HIND MEIN YATRA KE LIYE; KATWAIYE BAAP NE BETE JAHAN KHUDA KE LIYE.†He was declared a qafir and not allowed to enter the mosque for the period over 30 years.
