Guest guest
Dear friend Visti Larsen, Namaskar! I am glad that out of more than a hundred “Vedic astrologers†to whom the mail was sent regarding the actual dates of real Navratras, at least one person has responded! You have said, “there are Sharadiya and Vasanta Vratas for the Devi which have been in vogue since before the time of Sri Rama. So my question to you is: how did you ascertain that the Sharadiya Vratas are the same as the Navratri vratas?†It appears you have not read my post carefully, as there would not have been such a confusion in your reply! I am, as such, clarifying a couple of points here: 1) Sharadiya Navratras and Vasanti Navratras are celebrated on two different occasions, and they have not to be confused with one another, as you are doing. Vasanti Navratras start with the first New Moon (Shukla pratipat) after the start of Vasanta Ritu, that takes place these days around February 21. The first New Moon in 2008 after the start of Vasanta Ritu was on March 8, 2008. That was the start of Vasanti Navratra, and accordingly, Shri Rama Navmi was on March 15, 2008. That was the “janma-dina†of Bhagwan Ram as per all the Ramayanas, including the Valmiki Ramayana. However, unfortunately for the entire Hindu community, as per the dictum of “Vedic astrologers†the whole of India celebrated it on some other day---as dictated by “almighty†Lahiri and Lahiriwalas! The next Vasanti navratras will start, accordingly, on February 26, 2009. As such, I request all the “Vedic astrologers†including you to celebrate the next Vasanti Navratras on February 26, 2009, and not on some other date, as will be advised by “almighty†Lahiri and Lahiriwalas! 2) Sharadiya Navratras, on the other hand, start with the first New Moon (shukla Pratipat) after the start of Sahrat Ritu (August 22, 2008), which event (Sharadiya Navratras/shukla pratipat) took place on August 31, 2008. These are known as Devi Navratras also, and in quite a few Hindu households, especially in West Bengal and Kashmir etc., “Devi sthapna†is done during that period. These are specially dedicated to goddess Durga----known as (the days of ) Durga Puja and Durga Saptashati is recited during these eight/nine days. It is on Dashmi after Mahanavmi that Dashahra is celebrated. That day is also known as Viajaya Dashmi---that was not the “birthday†of Bhgwan Ram, but it was/is the day when He got Vijaya over Ravana! It is worthwhile to mention here that during the Vedic period---actually till the advent of Maya the mlechha into India---the Vedic calendar was aligned to seasons. The shortest day of the year for Northern latitudes is actually the longest day for Southern latitudes and vice-versa. Similarly, Vasnta Ritu/vasanti navratras for northern latitudes is/are like Sharat Ritu/sharadiya navratras for Southern latitudes and vice-versa. However, days and nights are equal on the two Equinoxes throughout the world---whether in Northern or Southern latitudes. That is why there are two navratras just as there are two equinoxes, but one is not to be confused with the other since Bhagwan Ram was born on Shukla Navmi of Madhumasa and not on Shukla Navmi of Urja masa, which is known as Mahanavmi (and not Rama-Navmi) as you are trying to say. As must have become clear by now, thus, so long as there is “Vedic astrology†and so long as there are “Vedic astrologersâ€, Hindu community will never be able to celebrate its festivals and muhurtas on correct days! Obviously, Hindu community does not need enemies to ruin it since it has “friendly Vedic astrologer†to do that job---billions and billions of them, who are compelling the Hindus to kill their own dharma by their own hands by celebrating all the festivals and muhurtas on wrong days! God only can save the Hindus from such “Vedic astrologersâ€. With regards, A K Kaul Visti Larsen [visti] Thursday, October 02, 2008 3:30 PM jyotirved Cc: sckursija; 'A.B. It is well known that the Navaratras and the Deepavali Pujas were brought about since the time of Sri Rama, and that there are Sharadiya and Vasanta Vratas for the Devi which have been in vogue since before the time of Sri Rama. So my question to you is: how did you ascertain that the Sharadiya Vratas are the same as the Navratri vratas? Yours sincerely, Visti Larsen ---------- www: http://srigaruda.com @: visti jyotirved skrev: Dear Shri S.C. Kursija-ji,Namaskar! <I pray to the Divine Universe Mother to bless all my friends and theirfamily members on the occasion of Navratri. > I am really amused to receive your Navratra greetings now---late by at leastone month! The fact of the matter is that the actual Sharadiya Navratras started onAugust 31, 2008, Mahashtami was on September 7, 2008, Mahanavmi on September9, 2008 and Vijaya Dashmi on September 10, 2008. Let me explain to you as briefly as possible the reason behind the same: Almost every educated Hindu recites Durga-Saptashati during SharadiyaNavratras. It is a part of Markandeya Purana. In one of the mantras(12/12) of Durga-Saptashati, goddess Durga has said, " Sharat-kale Maha-puja,kriyate ya chai varshikee.... " i.e. " The annual Mahapuja that is done inSharat-kala... " . Now, as per all the panchangas, including the " bible " of " Vedic astrologers " viz. Lahiri's Indian Ephemeris, Sharat-Ritu started on August 22, 2008.Consequently, the first New Moon i.e. Shukla paksha pratipat at the time ofsunrise after that date was the start of real Sharadiya Navratras. Thatphenomenon occurred on August 31, 2008. Thus Sharadiya Navratras hadstarted on that date actually. It is a well known fact that Sharadiya navratras start on the firstShukla-pratipat after the Sarva-Pitra Amavasya, also known as Mahalaya. Letus, therefore, see as to when the Pitra-paksha actually prevailed. As per all the shastras including Devi Bhagavata, Bhadra Krishna Paksha(Mukhyamana i.e. Amanta-based) is the start of Pitra/Shradha-paksha. As perall the Vedas, Puranas and the Vedanga Jyotisha etc., Dakshinayana, thelongest day of the year i.e. Summer Solstice, and the Vedic month of Nabhahand (solar) Shravana start simultaneously. All these phenomena, therefore, started on June 21, 2008. Consequently, the first New Moon(shukla-pratipat) after that was on July 3/4, 2008. That was thus the startof lunar Shravana. The next New Moon (Shukla-pratipat) after that was onAugust 2, 2008. That was the start of lunar Bhadra, as such.Bhadra-Krishna (Mukhya-mana i.e. Amanta based) started, as such, on August17, 2001. THAT WAS THUS THE START OF SHRADHA/PITRA PAKSHA. Accordingly,Pitra-Amavasya was on August 30, 2008. Obviously, any auspicious ceremonies performed during that period wereagainst the dictum of shastras! It gets thus conclusively proved that Sharadiya Navratras, as per all theshastras, started on August 31, 2008, and not on October 1, 2008. It may be a SHOCK TO YOU and to all the " Vedic astrologers " that the actualDipavali, as per all the shastras, was on September 28, 2008 and is not onOctober 28, 2008. I hope, being " masters in Vedic astrology " it will not bedifficult for you/them now to see as to why Dipavali was on September 28! For the kind perusal (sic!) of all of you I am enclosing, in pdf format, alist of correct dates of all the festivals during 2008-09. I hope, AGAINSTHOPE, that " Vedic astrologers " will have some fear of God in their heartsand guide the Hindu community about the real dates of festivals instead ofmisguiding them about their " Bhavishya " on the shoulders of " Vedicastrology " Needless to mention here that the " ashirvads " that you have " bestowed " onthe recipients of your good wishes are meaningless! They may actually evenboomerang. They are for an auspicious occasion which has already passed, but even then it has been chosen arbitrarily as per the dictates of Lahiriand Lahiriwalas instead of as per shastras. And as per the Gita 16/23 " yah shastra-vidhim-utsrijya vartate kama karatah, na sa sidhim avapnoti nasukham na param gatim " .i.e. " One who acts according to his sweet will against the injunctions ofshastras, he attains neither success nor happiness least of allemancipation " . " Vedic astrology " , on the basis of which our fasts and fairs and muhurtasare decided, is thus against the letter and spirit of shastras especially asit compels us to celebrate all our muhurtas and festivals and fairs on wrongdays. Therefore, the earlier we put a full stop to it the better for Hinducommunity as a whole. I may put on record here that I have been brining all these anachronism of " Vedic astrology " vis-à -vis Hindu festivals, fairs and muhurtras to thenotice of all the " leading Vedic astrologers " though several forums andindividual letters/mails/posts over the last several years, but they appearto have put wool into their ears! Instead of giving any counter-arguments,leave alone streamlining the festivals, they just banned me from forums like " Vedic-astrology () " , " Vedic-wisdom () " , " om_namah_shivaya-group() " , " Hinduism_environment () " , " () " etc. etc. Obviously, " Vedic astrologers " have no courage to accept thetruth and they therefore believe in " killing the messenger " and buryingtheir heads under sand like an ostrich, on seeing a cat! Anyway, here is an open invitation to all of you to joinHinduCalendarand present your views/counter-arguments freely and frankly since the postson that forum are not moderated at all. Every one who knows IndianVedanta knows that the microcosm is well with in macrocosm as waves in theocean, its perceived separateness is the cause of conflicts. The Divine Universe Mother or the pure consciousness pervades all forms, size and all names, wise and retarded persons. The celebration of Navratrireminds us to recognize the one divinity, to conquer Mahishsure, theinertia, Shumbha-Nishumbha, pride and shame, and Madhu kaitabh, extreme formof craving and aversion, Raktabeejasura, unreasonable logic, I am right, others are wrong, Chand-Mundda, Dhoomralochan, blurred vision, and other ourinner durgunas. May the Divine Universe Mother bless you to overcome all your durgunas byraising the level of your inner prana shakti, the life force energy. With love and regards
