In Indian cosmology the major planets are regarded as deities or gods. This view,

at times, extends to the common parlance of today, e. g., `rain god', `sun god', etc. the

Buddha was not disposed to comment on these views. and so he contented himself with

merely expressing the message of the Dhamma through the medium of these views ). - Ven Piyadassi thera

The Moon Deity's Prayer for Protection

// Thus have I heard:

On one occasion the Blessed One was living near Savatthi, at Jetavana at Anathpindika's monastery. At that time Candima, the moon deity, was seized by Rahu, lord of Asura. Thereupon calling to mind the Blessed One, Candima, the moon deity, recited this stanza:

i. "O Buddha, the Hero, thou art wholly free from all evil. My adoration to thee. I have fallen into distress. Be thou my refuge."

Thereupon the Blessed One addressed a stanza to Rahu, Lord of Asuras, on behalf of Candima, thus:

ii. "O Rahu, Candima has gone for refuge to the Tathagata, the Consummate One. Release Candima. The Buddhas radiate compassion on the world (of beings)."

Thereupon Rahu, Lord of Asuras, released Candima, the deity, and immediately came to the presence of Vepacitta, Lord of Asuras, and stood beside him trembling with fear and with hair standing on end. Then Vepacitta addressed Rahu in this stanza.

iii. "Rahu. Why did you suddenly release Candima? Why have you come trembling, and why are you standing here terrified?"

"I have been spoken to by the Buddha in a stanza (requesting me to release Candima). If I had not released Candima my head would have split into seven pieces. While yet I live, I should have had no happiness. (Therefore I released Candima)." //

Suriya Sutta

The Sun Deity's Prayer for Protection

//Thus have I heard:

On one occasion the Blessed One was living near Savatthi at Jetavana at Anathapindika's monastery. At that time Suriya, the sun deity, was seized by Rahu, Lord of Asuras. Thereupon calling to mind the Blessed One, Suriya, the Sun deity, recited this stanza:

i. "O Buddha, the Hero, thou art wholly free from all evil. My adoration to thee. I have fallen into distress. Be thou my refuge."

Thereupon the Blessed One addressed a stanza to Rahu, Lord of Asuras, on behalf of Suriya thus:

ii. "O Rahu, Suriya has gone for refuge to the Tathagata, the Consummate One. Release Suriya. The Buddhas radiate compassion on the world (of beings).

iii. "O Rahu, swallow not the dispeller of darkness, the shining one, the radiant and effulgent traveler through the sky. Rahu, release Suriya, my son."

Thereupon Rahu, Lord of Asuras, released Suriya, and immediately came to the presence of Vepacitta, Lord of Asuras, and stood beside him trembling with fear and with hair standing on end. Then Vepacitta addressed Rahu in this stanza:

iv. "Rahu, why did you suddenly release Suriya? Why have you come trembling, and why are you standing here terrified?"

"I have been spoken to by the Buddha in a stanza (requesting me release Suriya). If I had not released Suriya my head would have split into seven pieces. While yet I live, I should have had no happiness. (Therefore I released Suriya)."//

Shri Sreedhar Nambiarji,

Namaskar!

You have said, " i got this frm a senior teacher of budhist monks frm

srilanka ,so this is frm atleast 2500 yrs old as srilanka keeps all

budhist texts with max reverence and no body will say brahmins

distorted it. "

What is the date, at least the exact year, of brith of Bhagvan Budha

accoding to you?

Secodly, in the passage quoted by you, there is not any mention of

any planet but the Sun and the Moon which were known as lights and

not as planets! Similarly, even today, none of the astronomers nor

astrologers, accept Rahu as a planet but as a node and even " chhaya-

graha " .

You have also said:

<Thereupon the Blessed One addressed a stanza to Rahu, Lord of

Asuras, on behalf of Candima, thus:

ii. " O Rahu, Candima has gone for refuge to the Tathagata, the

Consummate One. Release Candima. The Buddhas radiate compassion on

the world (of beings). "

Thereupon Rahu, Lord of Asuras, released Candima, the deity, and

immediately came to the presence of Vepacitta, Lord of Asuras, and

stood beside him trembling with fear and with hair standing on end.

Then Vepacitta addressed Rahu in this stanza>

It appears niether the " Blessed One " referred to in those works knew

nor you know even a bit of geagraphy since if the Moon/Sun

are/were " releasted " by " Rahu " only after the " Blessed One " addresses

a stanza to it, the Moon/Sun should have been in its grip ever since

the " Blessed One " left for " His heavenly abode " .

I wonder as to how long will " Vedic jyotishis " continue to make a

fool of a common man by such snippets and tidbits! God only can save

the Hindu community from " Vedic Jyotishis " !

Dhanyavad.

Shri Sreedhar Nambiarji,

Namaskar!

<If you can listen to the following where you get all 28 names of

past buddhas>

The Gita has said, " Bahooni me vyateetani, janmani tava cha arjuna

taani aham vedmi sarvani na tvam vettha parantapa "

i.e.

" O Arjuna, both of us have had several janmas. I know them all but

you do not know them " .

If Gautama the Budha has had 28 janmas, that is nothing new as per

Hindu philosophy! It is also possible that He remembered/recalled

all His janmas.

< and now u can start dating ,hating and even distorting on each

budhas>

I have read in History books that Gautama the Budha was a

contemporary of Vardhaman Mahavira, the founder of Jainism. Jainese

also claim that Mahavira had had several incarnations as

Tirthankaras. So do the budhists about Gautama the Budha! The Budha

we are talking about is said to have " incarnated " around 2500 BCE.

So is the case with Mahavira. As such, I do not know what you mean

by the above statement! It appears that you are actually projecting

your hate to others and distorting the facts yourself!

<budhist stupa like structure in indus valley finding and it says it

is abov 5000 yrs old>

If Gautama the Budha had appeared around 2500 BCE, it is just

possible that a stupa was erected in his " honour " and that stupa

could be of around 4500 years old! So what is so surprising about it?

<also help the reserchers how this connection happened the

vedic saraswathi and mlecha saraswathi culture which was pre vedic and

pre-indus .they hav scripts and world wide presence where as vedic ppl

has no scripts or books or cuniforms till today find out ( even vedas

never written it was smriti and sruthi form ).>

Quite a few Budhist scholars--some of them from Leh in J & K---are

doing a lot of research about the real/actual date of Gautama the

Budha. The " Leh gentleman " got some details about eclipses/New

Moons/Full Moons from me for a period of 2600 BCE to 2200 BCE, to

ascertain the actual date of the Budha.

Cuniforms/clay tablets are from Chaldea/Babylonia, which is known as

Iraq these days! It is because of their fatal infatuation with

astrology that they came to such a plight! Do you want India also to

have a similar fate?

BTW, can you quote even a single " mahavakya " from Gautama the Budha

where he has advised his followers to be taken in by astrologers'

hoaxes? To the best of my knowledg, the Budha has advised against

falling into the trap of such " shamans " etc. And YOU ARE JUST GOING

AGAINST HIS TEACHINGS BY ADVOCATING THE FRAUD KNOWN AS VEDIC

ASTROLOGY, BUT CLAIMING TO BE A FOLLOWER OF BUDHISM!

And that is where you are exactly like all the other " Vedic

astrologers " ---practising predictive gimmicks on the shoulders of

those very shastras that have deplored such tactics!

Dhanyavad.

I am yet to come across authentic statemnt frm Lord Budha that he was against astrology .Wat he said is even if he says the sisyas shud not accept anything unless they also exprnce it .

where as i heard some sanyasi predicted when budha born that either he will b a chakravarty (king of kings )or a gr8 saint .Also bhagavan budha possess 32 chakravorty lakhshana.can u tell me ur idea abt wat is it .

regrds sreedhar nambiar

How come The so called veda and saraswathy connection u dont seems to care abt it ??how it happened ,what is ur idea abt swastika ?? why it is used in saraswathi civilisation .

There were so many instance abt how saraswathi ppl has been influenced sumerian ,babylonian and minovan (pre alexander greek ) cultures.why u r silent abt it .Or r u happy that all came frm jews and west .

can u show one text of vedic ppl in reality -i mean proof with authenticity ( ur so called vedic -as ur loc ( line of control ) is that much only ) and that they knows LIPI and they wrote in that .

Shri Sreedhar Nambiarji,

Namaskar!

<I am yet to come across authentic statemnt frm Lord Budha that he was

against astrology >

Pl. brush up your knowledge about what Gautama the Budha has said

about shamans and their pranks.

<Wat he said is even if he says the sisyas shud not

accept anything unless they also exprnce it .>

Maybe " Vedic astrology " is an exception since you want it to be

accepted by everybody even before " experiencing " (sic!) it!

<where as i heard some sanyasi predicted when budha born that either

he will b a chakravarty (king of kings )or a gr8 saint .Also bhagavan

budha possess 32 chakravorty lakhshana.can u tell me ur idea abt wat

is it .>

Whenver there is an either/or it means the person who has predicted

it is not himself sure!Obviously, tha sanyasi was wrong since in

spite of having " chakravortylakshana " Gautama the Budha became a

mendicant, a beggar!

<so many budhist monks esp tibetan/nepalies monks also practise

astrology and mind reading technics etc .>

They are doing a disservice to their religion like impostor Vamadevas

are doing to Hinduism by teaching " Vedic astrology " .

Regards,

A K Kaul
