The maximum distance between the two luminaries cannot thus exceed 360 (i.e. zero!) so there are thirty tithis, 15th being purnima and 30th Amavasya! Longitudes of the luminaries as given by NASA from which other " bodies " including the Rashtriya Panchanga get their data, are geocentric i.e. for an imaginary point at the centre of the earth which itself is about 5000 ft. (I hope I am correct in this estimate!) below the surface of the earth! as such, it has nothing to do with particular longitude or latitude of a place! The ending moments of tithis given in Indian panchangas are usually in IST and by subtracting 5.5 hours from the same, u get the timings in GMT a.k.a UT which can be converted to the desired zonal time. For determining the tithi that is prevailing for a particular day, usually it is the sunrise time of a particular place that is taken into account. For whole of Inidia, Rashtriya Panchanga uses a place near Ujjain having a longitude of 82.5 degrees East and latitude of 23 degrees 11 minutes North. And they consider that that tithi may be taken as prevailing for the whole of India, if it is prevailing at the time of sunrise at that particular place. However, other panchangakars of other states/provinces take usually the longitudes of the capitals of their states for calculating such phenomena. It must be put on record that the mutual distance of two luminaries remaining the same, whether in so called sayana or so called nirayana, the ending moments of tithis do not differ because of ayanamsha curse. Astronomically, though, geocentric phenomena are a farce but then in India, correct predictions are made only from incorrect data, as such, how can deciding fasts, fesivals and muhurtas being calculated on the basis of farcical endinng moments of tithis be an exception! As such, thanks to our " Vedic astrologers " and " Vedic panchangamakers " including the Rashtriya Panchanga (which is actually a euphemism for Lahiri panchanga!). u can rest assured that they will leave no stone unturned to make u celebrate all your fesitvals on anything but correct days and timings! All they are worried about is their bread and butter (actually sinful crumbs!), which they earn from making fool of a common man! As such, so long as we leave it to jyotishis to decide the dates and timings of festivals and muhurtas for us, instead of taking things into our own hands, there is no possibility of reviving the real Vedic dharma, whatever trumpets we may keep on blowing! How can they hold good places in UK ,USA Australia which are far removed fron India and have very different Latitude and Longitudes?Do we need different panchangs for different countries where we find Indian diaspora now?Plese clarify .Thanks > PL Raina > --- End forwarded message ---
