Tapas in Vedic Literature (was Mayan Calendar)

For Sunil Nair and all members:

As we read the vedic literature such as the Shrimad Bhagavatam and

others, we will find symbolisms that are often mistaken as mere

stories from the rishis. However, if we analyze the message of the

story, one will find jyotish principles that are being conveyed. For

example,

There's a story of a man who decided to perform austerities in

order to gain immortality and invincibility. He decided that he will

stand up on his feet and raise his hands up for milleniums until

Brahman grants him a boon. In the end, Brahma noticed and gave him a

boon by saying that he will not die at the hands of a man or a beast.

The story is long but the point is that he performed tapas using his

limbs, in particular his legs or feet (signified by the 12th house).

For jyotish purposes, this story shows that the 12th house represents

tapas, meditation, or some form of sacrifice.

For the ancient Mayans, their sacrifice was the use of human beings

as offerings. By doing so, they thought that they would be appeasing

their gods, for better harvests and maintenance of their way of

life. How is the jyotish principle applied? Specifically, the 12th

house is the 8th house (death) from the 5th house, signifying sons,

offsprings, thougths and intelligence.

Similarly, one can understand how this principle applies to

meditation and other sacrifices as well.

If anyone has any other observations derived from the vedas, please

let us know.

Regards,

John R.
