" My understanding of what follows that statement is that Benefics who rule signs positioned in the Central Houses (I, IV, VII, X) become temporary Malefics during their maha-dash. And the more benefic the planet naturally is, them more pronounced this temporary transformation in disposition becomes. He also mentions something I understand as this... If a benefic's sign is in the Kendra (Central) Houses, and the benefic planet itself is in II or VII, then that planet becomes Marak-karak (Death-dealer). My questions: 1) Am I understanding this correctly? 2) Can someone explain why a Benefic so radically changes it's disposition for the worse when it owns a powerful Central House? It seems counter-intuitive to me. ~~~~ MORE ~~~~~ He also states (next page) that " Rulers of these [iII, VI, and XI] whether benefic or malefic produce bad results only " Does this mean that if 9-Sagittarius is in XI that Jupiter would only manifest inauspicious karmas for the native during the Jupiter Maha- Dash? This all seems like such sweeping over-riding all-powerful statements to me. I'm looking for help putting it into perspective. Guest guest
Dear Vic, // " The planets rule not only the signs but also the houses in which the signs are present. Ny owning the houses the planets become tempoary benefics or malefics during the ruling-periods. " // This correct! Please read BPHS (Ch.34): http://jyotishvidya.com/ch34.htm //2) Can someone explain why a Benefic so radically changes it's disposition for the worse when it owns a powerful Central House? It seems counter-intuitive to me.// Again, reading through the aforesaid chapter (carefully) should make this clearer. It's important to remember that when Parashara talks of malefics/benefics (due to lordship), this implies that the said planets are malefic to that particular Ascendant. It's also important to note the planet's moolatrikona sign. //He also states (next page) that " Rulers of these [iII, VI, and XI] whether benefic or malefic produce bad results only " // This is explained fully here: http://jyotishvidya.com/bhavas.htm Please (top left of page) for further classification/explanation of the houses. //Does this mean that if 9-Sagittarius is in XI that Jupiter would only manifest inauspicious karmas for the native during the Jupiter Maha- Dash?// In all things we have to exercise a certain amount of our own judgement (common-sense). For instance, in the above analogy, 9th bhava would be Jupiter's moolatrikona sign (taking precedence over his rulership of 12th). For Aries lagna Jupiter is deemed a functional benefic. In this instance 9th lord Jupiter would boost the significations of 11th by occupation as well as 3rd, 5th and 7th by aspect...provided of course that Jupiter remains unafflicted by any other planet. It's important also to note Saturn's position in relation to Jupiter...whether temporary friend or enemy. On the other hand, due to Jupiter's placement in a trishadya bhava, there would be some negative effect in regards to the significations of 9th bhava...this might possibly be interpreted as a strong desire for materialism overriding the auspicious significations of 9th house etc, etc.. The nature, position and strength of Jupiter's nakshatra lord is also a very important consideration.
