Srimad Bhagavatam on charity

The Devas said (to the great sage, Dadhici),

 

" Those who are too self-interested beg something from others, not

knowing of other's pain. But if the begger knew the difficulty of the

giver, he would not ask anything. Similarly, he who is able to give

charity does not know the begger's difficulty, for otherwise he would

not refuse to give to the begger. " - Srimad Bhagavatam 6/10/6
