Guest guest
Dear Vic, Thanks for this information. I was on vacation for a week. I just catch the old mails of the List. Regards, C.S. Ravindramani. PS: I wish you all the best for your elevation in the list. ================================ #9144Vic DiCara <vicdicara Mon Jun 16, 2008 11:26 pm The & nbsp; Issue vicdicara Offline Send Email Dear Ravindramani, I am an internet programmer. " & nbsp; " is an HTML " entity " - which is a character sequence to denote a special character not otherwise denotable with a single keystroke. " & " starts the denotation, and " ; " ends it. In this case we find " nbsp " which means " Non Breaking Space " - this is a way that HTML can line up more than one space character in a row without them being amalgamated into a single space. As for why it is showing up in the group... what is happening is that somewhere along the line, the character " & " is ITSELF being translated to an HTML entity. (the entity for " & " is " & amp; " ) and thus you literally see the code " & nbsp; " instead of the entity being translated to a non-breaking white space, as it should have been if the original ampersand were not translated to an entity. This could be caused by an outdated or incompatible browser being used to send replies to the group, or even perhaps by an email client which is not very good at formatting or de-formatting HTML format messages.
