Guest guest Posted April 17, 2007 Report Share Posted April 17, 2007 Dear Mr Gendarz, Divinators and psychics/sensitives as they think of themselves generally tend to be umm.. err.. <sensitive> and while it is an occupational hazard, I have an observation, if I may share with you all! Over time, we have noticed that the human mind has the ability to get used to and ignore certain images and sensations and perceptions that at first prove to be shocking. Some examples of this follow: 1. When postings of all those " Nigerian requests for money... " arrived in our mail boxes we got upset and pretty soon we got so used to those that when one came into my mailbox recently after a long long gap, there was a bemused smile on my lips and not the frustration and anger that used to be the case a few years ago! 2. And all those postings about porn sites and so on, that really upset all of us and to which we reacted vociferously and somewhat aggressively against our natural mien, now get reposted and float us by and we do not even react! 3. We are all (hopefully?) adults and for the most part have mature and formed personalities, values and so on, but our children, and the next to their generation (if we are baby boomers and grandparents) too seemingly get used to this kind of sensory shock! Through video games that are violent and incessant exposure to violence and aggression on TV and in movies -- they too become jaded. Now mind you, not all of them will end up being serial killers or the guy/s who shot 32 individual recently on a US campus, but probably there is a link there somewhere! A link that says: desensitization and tolerance to such things may not be the right way to go about it. 4. In some ways the message to which you responded to and protested falls in a similar category. Initially, everyone reacted, but lately we just gloss over the message and groan and move on, but the assault continues. As in the case of the children exposed to violence, even though unreal and imaginary and on TV, such a state of tolerance and remaining blase' is not the right way, and so I support your protest to not post such messages on a jyotish forum. As a clarification and elaboration -- several years ago, there was a protest made against violent cartoons and how they affect kids, about which I was concerned too but not sure. The answer was provided by a couple of very gifted individuals who interestingly had their lights in sagittarius (one had sun in sag and the other moon in sag, and they were individuals with leo and cancer rising respectively) that even at a very young age they could distinguish between cartoons and real life. And one of them later told that these movies and cartoons and make believe violence only affect those that are already disturbed! Coming from fairly regular kids between six and ten years old, these comments were reassuring on the one hand, but then one wonders how many other kids feel or know the same way. The POINT to all this is that we must resist becoming insensitive and tolerant to what was not acceptable initially but to which most have sadly become resistant to or simply ignore.
