Guest guest
Dear Vic, //Jupter's orb of influence for it's aspects is 10º, right?// NO!! Unlike Western astrology that considers the degree between planets in its calculation of aspects, Vedic astrology considers aspects relative to the bhava. So, Jupiter will aspect 5th, 7th and 9th bhava from himself and any planet within those bhavas will receive Jupiter's aspect. Some astrologers, particularly the SA school, do consider exact degree of aspect, but traditionally, aspects are between bhavas. So let's say Jupiter is in X at only 4º. He casts a 7th influence on IV and any planet between III-24º and IV-14º, right. So, would you say his 7th influence will also be partially felt on III? - Vic

Dear Mrs. Wendy, Please help me further with this. Raj K. Chadha, in his excellent book " A Practical Guide to Hindu Astrology " (pg. 253-254) States that an aspect is most powerful when planets are at the same longitude degree, and that the aspect weakens as it moves +/- that degree - out to the edge of the planet's " orb of aspect " which for all planets is 10º, but for moon is 15º and sun is 20º At the end he does write a sentence which could mean that this is only true in determining which planets will participate in a maha-dash. But i'm not sure about that. His book is quite thorough and " Hindu " . I've included his email (which I get from the front of his book) on this message. But I am inclined to believe him. Could you therefore provide a sastric or similar reference to the effect that planets aspect complete bhava's not just their Orb of Influence? Thanks so much for your help. - Vic On May 22, 2008, at 8:31 PM, Wendy Vasicek wrote: > Dear Vic, > > //Jupter's orb of influence for it's aspects is 10º, right?// > > NO!! > > Unlike Western astrology that considers the degree between planets > in its > calculation of aspects, Vedic astrology considers aspects relative > to the > bhava. > So, Jupiter will aspect 5th, 7th and 9th bhava from himself and any > planet within those bhavas will receive Jupiter's aspect. > > Some astrologers, particularly the SA school, do consider exact > degree of > aspect, but traditionally, aspects are between bhavas. > > Best Wishes, > Mrs. Wendy > http://JyotishVidya.com > ___ > > - > " Vic D " <vicdicara > " Jyotish Vidya " <jyotish-vidya > > Friday, May 23, 2008 3:29 AM > Orb of Influence > > Jupter's orb of influence for it's aspects is 10º, right? > > So let's say Jupiter is in X at only 4º.
