Guest guest
The Tirpitz, which was dubbed the " Lonely Queen of the North, " was named after Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz. The ship never fired a single shot against an enemy ship--but her mere presence was a great threat to the Allies. According to a Web site, " In July 1942, she was indirectly responsible for the destruction of convoy PQ-17 without firing a single shot. " [1] Regarding the Tirpitz, Winston Churchill is himself supposed to have said, " The destruction, or even the crippling, of this ship is the greatest event at sea at the present time. No other target is comparable to it. The entire naval situation throughout the world would be altered. " [2] The birth of the Tirpitz has been taken as the time when she was commissioned. To understand why the Tirpitz could survive so long, let us study a few of the many attacks that were made against her. [3] These can be broken down as per the dasa - antar - pratyantar running at the time of the incident. Since it is not possible to cover every attack made against the Tirpitz, let us take seven attacks, which were made against the Tirpitz. These can be broken down under ra - ra - ku (July-15-1944 to September-09-1944) and ra - gu - gu (September-10-1944 to January-04-1945). Note that, out of these seven attacks, the first four, which happened in ra - ra - ku didn't achieve much. It was only when ra - gu - gu happened that the Tirpitz met its doom. ra - ra - ku 1. Operation " Mascot " - 17 July 1944 - An Attack on Tirpitz, involving 44 Barracudas, 18 Hellcats and 30 escort fighters from the aircraft carriers Formidable, Indefatigable and Furious. Tirpitz had been forewarned and the aircraft was unable to hit the German battleship. 2. Operation " Goodwood I " and " II " - 22 August 1944 - Tirpitz was attacked by 32 Barracudas escorted by 43 fighters from the aircraft carriers Formidable, Indefatigable, Furious, Nabob and Trumpeter. Tirpitz received no hits. 3. Operation " Goodwood III " - 24 August 1944 - Tirpitz was attacked by 33 Barracudas, 10 Hellcats, 5 Corsairs and 29 fighters from the aircraft carriers Indefatigable, Furious and Formidable. 2 hits. 4. Operation " Goodwood IV " - 29 August 1944 - Tirpitz was attacked by 26 Barracudas, 2 Corsairs, 3 Hellcats and 25 fighters from aircraft carriers Formidable and Indefatigable. No hits, several near misses. ANALYSIS Rahu is in the 5th in the star of 4th lord Surya. His dispositor Budha is Vargotamma in the 10th. The 4th rules end of undertakings and the 10th rules karma, and since these were fortified, the Tirpitz couldn't be badly afflicted. Additionally, the lord of the 4th aspects the 4th and is conjunct Lagnadipati and 6th lord Sukra. Here, Sukra's ownership of the 6th implies the ability to overcome enemies. Ironically, the fact that Sani is Neecha doesn't seem to have adversely impacted the Tirpitz--this is probably because of the strength that Sani gets by winning a graha yudda with Guru. Kuja is in the 8th house of conflicts, aspected by dispositor Guru. He occupies the star of obstructor Ketu, and this no doubt ensured that the Allied plans were not successful. In the navamsa, Kuja is neecha, but occupies the Lagna and rules the 5th and the 10th. ra - gu - gu 5. Operation " Paravane " - 15 September 1944 - Attacked by 21 Lancasters from 9 and 617 Squadrons stated in Yagodnik, USSR. Two bomb hits on the forecastle. The Tirpitz was out of action. 6. Operation " Obviate " - 29 October 1944 - Tirpitz was attacked by 39 Lancasters (19 Lancasters of 617 Squadron and 20 Lancasters of 9 Squadron). Only one near miss which exploded about 15 m off the port side in the region of the steering gear. 7. Operation " Catechism " - 12 November 1944 - 31 Lancaster bombers from 9 and 617 Squadrons attacked the ship with " Tallboy " bombs. After the first three hits and several near misses the ship capsizes. ANALYSIS Guru's antar and pratyantar started on September-10-1944 and the Allies met some success five days later. Guru in the 12th as the 8th lord should be helpful, but the presence of the 11th lord in the 12th is bad for gains. Worse still, Guru loses a graha yudda with Sani. He is also in Bharani, a star ruled by Yama, the lord of death. Because of his affliction, all the houses he aspects--namely, the 4th, the 6th, and the 8th--were adversely impacted, along with the houses he rules, namely the 8th and the 11th. In the navamsa, Guru is in the 3rd as the lord of the 6th, conjunct the lord of the 8th. There are three interesting things about the Tirpitz chart: 1. The lords of the 1st to the 6th all occupy the 10th 2. The lords of the 8th to the 11th occupy the 12th 3. The lords of the 7th and the 12th are in the 8th Point #1 above probably endowed the Tirpitz with luck initially, but points #2 and #3 no doubt ended up leading to the doom of this ship. The shadvarga vimshopak of the pratyantar nathas is also interesting. Kuja gets 15.80, and since any score over 15 leads to auspicious results, the Tirpitz couldn't be harmed at that time. But Guru's shadvarga vimshopak is just 13.10, and so his pratyantar didn't offer any protection to the Tirpitz.
