I do have a chart with the date 22 May 1972 which I think may have been when the name changed from Ceylon to Sri Lanka. But I'm not sure now as it's been in my file for some years and I can't remember where I got it from?? This chart has Leo rising with dasa lord Rahu in 6th and dispositor Saturn in 10th along with Lagna lord Sun. Can you confirm the validity of this chart? This gives Libra rising 17:37:15 in nakshatra of Rahu... It might be interesting to check the dasas/transits for 23rd Jul 1983 (Black July) against both charts to help determine which one reflects the situation more convincingly. Black July being the commonly used name for the anti-Tamil attacks carried out by Sinhala mobs starting on 23rd Jul 1983. This is generally seen as the start of full scale armed conflict between Tamil militants and the Government of Sri Lanka. It is estimated that 400-3000 Tamils were killed, tens of thousands of houses were destroyed, and a wave of Sri Lankan Tamils left for other countries. This was mentioned by a Srilankan astrologer in another forum. Using this, we get Aquarius rising (co-owned by Rahu) and Venus and Mercury in it. Rahu is in the nakshtra of Venus. There is some kind of parivartana between Rahu and Venus. Interestingly for 23rd Jul 1983 (black July) we get Ven-Rah-Ven-Rah as the vimshottari dasha sequence. Once again it gets a little muddled as we have now three different tomes for the Independence chart i.e. 00:00:00, 07:30:00 and now 08:00:00. Unfortunately I do have to leave the computer now for a few hours so hope to see some more confirmation of which chart, including the 22 may 1972 (official proclamation of the Republic of Sri Lanka) chart... It would help if someone could confirm whether or not Sri Lanka was known as the " Dominion of Lanka " prior to the official proclamation of the " Republic of Sri Lanka " on 22 May 1972... Must quickly send this now and go tend to other things... This was mentioned by a Srilankan astrologer in another forum. Using this, we get Aquarius rising (co-owned by Rahu) and Venus and Mercury in it. Rahu is in the nakshtra of Venus. There is some kind of parivartana between Rahu and Venus. Interestingly for 23rd Jul 1983 (black July) we get Ven-Rah-Ven-Rah as the vimshottari dasha sequence.
