Namaste To All,

I have requested many scholars in Varanasi and Allahabad, besides in my

hometown which has a recognized Sanskrit university and another Sanskrit

research institute in addition to a general university having a Sanskrit

department, to collect all published and unpublished variants of BPHS so

that a team of scholars should be able to prepare a critical edition

based on all available variants of BPHS. If you can inform us of and

help us in procuring little known variants, we will be grateful.

Dear Shri Jha,

I had started this process a year ago with Pt. Dinesh Chandra Awasthi as the

lead editor. However, after his demise, the process was halted. The books are

still in the possession of his family. I will try to get these. I may also have

a couple of old editions in my personal library.

I will also be happy to sponsor a part of the cost of the translation and

critical analysis.

regards,

raj

Raj ji,

You can help us by sending at least the photostat copies (intelligible) if

originals cannot be sent. There are many manuscripts of BPHS which have not seen

the light of day. We need older manuscripts or their copies.

I have a good team of pandits from many states of India, who are already

collaborating in seven panchangas made from my software :

Adityavahini Panchangam (Puri's ShankarÄchÄrya's Govardhana Math).

Sanskrit Academy Panchangam (HRD Ministry, Govt of Bihar),Patna,India.

Mithila Panchanga, Darbhanga, India (Dr Radhakant Mishra,Dr Udishta Narayan Jha,

& c).

Surya Panchangam, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India (Murari Vajpeyi).

Aditya Panchangam, Varanasi, India (Dr Parasnath Ojha).

Prayagraja PanchÄngam, Allahabad, India (Dr Girija Shankar Shastri).

Parmartha Panchangam, Mainpuri, UP, India.

PÄrÄnkusha PanchÄngam, Gaya, Bihar, India.

(Third in this list has been merged with second, and the last has been stopped

due to overlapping of region, hence only six panchangas in future)

Editors of these panchangas are heads of departments and professors in Jyotisha

departments of many Sanskrit universities. All of them are not equally good in

giving time when it comes to editing a critical edition, but I know how to take

help from them. The main problem is procuring ALL variants of BPHS as far as

possible. We can mange cost of publication either through fund raising among

ourselves, or ask some publisher like Chowkhamba, but that is a future task. If

the work is done well, God will give means to get it published. Fortunately, I

have 35 years left in my Aayu, hence i hope this task will be successfully

finished. Even if we fail to procure all manuscripts, we will bring out some

good work based on available ones. There are many collections of old manuscripts

in my town in two universities and one Sanskrit research institute, nearly

100,000 manuscripts in three institutions. There are large collections in Adyar,

Pune, Allahabad,

Calcutta, Darbhanga, etc.You may help in searching manuscripts.
