If the family has been worshipping an Ishta devta then the pooja of the same should continue. Changing the Ishta devta is not advisable. Assuming that you do not know which is the Ishta Devta worshipped in your family or there has never been a tradition to worship any devta in the family, I am suggesting the following : For you : Lord Vishnu in any of his manifestations, or the Sun God. For your Husband :Goddess Durga or Parvati or any of the forms of Shakti.
