Mark, I thought the remedial value of jyotish lay in gemstones and yagyas, not understanding and appreciation ourselves. In other words, if jyotish reveals a malefic influence in some area of my life, the remedy is to strengthen that area with gems and yagyas. My understanding aside, would you like to elaborate on your post, Mark? Thanks. Patrick Gillam Dear Patrick: Jyotish remedies consist of many forms. Gemstones and yagyas are one form, yantras too, behavioral prescriptions, like feeding the poor, etc.... all with the idea in mind that we could influence the 'deity' or intelligence that, 'that' planet represents. However, these Planets are also symbolic of us. Maharishi, himself has said, that Jyotish connects that which is generally thought to be outward with that which is inward. When, we study the stars, or the astrology, we stimulate that cosmic connection .... and that which used to be experienced as outward starts to become inward... Wondered...why at some point, why people start to see stars! Also, these Planets do just represent different aspects of ourselves... And the specific Jyotish configurations represent different aspects of our nature, personality, mind and body and nervous system. Now, people are beginning to understand that Jyotish can just as well be called Eastern Psychology, as it has to do with the Cosmic Psychology of the individual. And to put it in your terms, when one finds a malefic in one's chart.... it not only corresponds with specific problems or challenges... it also corresponds to the style, development and maturity of that aspect of human nature. For example the Moon represents our emotional nature, stability and even what's popularly today called, 'emotional intelligence'... And yes, we can bring some improvement to that Planet, if it's malefic, especially, by wearing a particular stone, ie. pearls or having some yaguas done... but there's even much more to it. The Moon represents our emotional nature, our feelings, and even intuition. So, if we want to strengthen the Moon, in us, we can go directly to the Moon, 'message' in our charts, and by strengthening the Moon, itself, personally, by conscious effort... we can literally change and improve that 'Moon', in our charts.... My particular research and insight into Jyotish is directly concerning these ideas and have now for over 16 years, accumulated quite a bit of wonderful experiences....showing that these kind of powerful changes can take place. When I was in India in 1988, attending an Ayurvedic course, Maharishi said, to 450 of us.... " don't take your charts seriously, like their written in stone, they just represent the state of physiology when you were born..... " take care Mark K. PS.... this is one of the reasons I like watching the transits, each day, because you can see how important the Moon is in your chart, by watching how you get effected by the Moon....and all the transits.... One can also strengthen the Moon, by paying attention to it's Monthly cycles and learning to be more in-tune with both the Waxing and Waning cycles. Right now, we're nearing the Full Moon, on March 6th.... then, watch how you feel over the next 2 weeks as the Moon wanes, getting smaller and smaller. See if you notice how much more inward you feel as the Moon wanes. This is the primary rest period of each month, especially the last few days before the new Moon coming this next month, around 14 days later, on March 20th... PS....I don't know if you've heard, but I also write a Jyotish newsletter. It includes a daily, Transits newsletter as well as other aspects of Jyotish as well. If you, or anyone else in this group is interested, in subscribing, feel free to contact me personally at: m.kincaid And the newsletter is free.
