Dear Rajeev:

I loved your beautiful conclusions, below and observations as to Mars.

Now, what we need to do, is add one very important thing.

And that is.... we need to add the Knowledge of Transformation, to the

regular Jyotish Knowledge of Understanding.

You've described some very good points as to the Knowledge of Understanding regarding Mars,

but the real purpose of Jyotish is to now focus on what do we do about it.

Mars is like High blood pressure, and in fact when someone goes to a doctor

and is told they have high blood pressure, an Ayurvedic doctor would just say: " You have out of balance pitta. "

As it turns out, pitta, which represents the fieryness inside, is just another name for,.... Mars!

So, when the doctor then says, " Do this and this and that.... " ... to lower your high pitta, these prescriptions are in fact going to also have a powerful influence on the person's Mars, too.

Think of Jyotish as Vedic Psychology.

And once we've found the out of balance quality, whether it's Mars, Mercury or Saturn;

we then, can move into the prescriptive part of Jyotish and start suggesting things to do,

to improve our malefic planets!

For Mars, whether it's in the lst, 4th, 7th, or 12th....

the pitta part of us, the (as you said so well), the manageing part of us, is being too aggressive!

We think we're doing right and are genuinely surprised when we have flare ups with people.

But, this is because where we have our Malefics, including Kuja dosha, this is where we have our illusions, delusions, imbalances and make mistakes.

Identifying a part of us, as being associated with say, Mars in the lst as you mention, helps us begin the healing process because now you're beginning to see the natural 1 to 1 correspondence between something 'undesirable' in our life and one of the malefics in our charts.

Now, begins the really fascinating and so vital aspects of Jyotish and that is Balanceing and Transforming Mars!

There's an expression in Vedic Science that goes: " What you put attention on grows stronger in your life. "

This means that if you put your attention on desiring and then changeing that part of you that's found being too aggressive or manipulative, (ie. Mars in the lst), then.... that whole mind-set

begins to be changed.

First step is identifying the problem.

Second step is deciding to change, to grow in that area.

Third step is to realize inside, how and why our 'Marishness' in the first is not healthy, for ourself as well as others.

Fourth final step is to begin replacing that old pattern with a new one.

I have Mars in the 10th house, and it's even in Cancer, which is another challenge.

However, I often found it was being out of balance and I would find myself getting into arguements with people especially around my career.

When I discovered Jyotish I immediately saw why I had this disagreements.

And when I looked inside I also saw there was a kind of pitta invasion that had come to my 10th House, itself.

At some point I had this 'flash' of aha and it came in the vision of General Pattan, who was a famous World War II general, who was all dressed up in his military uniform, but standing in the middle of the living room of his grandmother's house.

He looked completely out of sinc with his nature and desire to get back on the field and participate in his War games.

So, I realized I needed to let him, (General Pattan) go out of my 10th House.

And it was also interesting because Mars is very positive in the 10th House, as a rule, but in my case, not so because Cancer is the energy of my 10th House.

But, immediately when I let him go, he soared out of my 10th House.

I focused on the Cancer energy that I'd also 'found' in my 10th House, and found if I allowed myself to be more intune with that energy,

but not!, in a uniquely Marish way but in a uniquely Cancer way; I found immediate success!

So, you too, can let go of your Mars in the first House.

Though sometimes you'll hear that Mars is the natural ruler of the first House, for many situations, Mars, too, there, can be released.

You also, can do the physical things to diminish pitta in your Physiology, which, too, will have a very good effect on diminishing that 'Mars'.

But, also figure out the mental things that you can do, to release Mars from it's habit of being in the first House.

Remember all the Jyotish configurations in our charts just represent different aspects of our Human Physiologys and Psychology's.

This means that as we change and improve ourselves, we'll spontaneously find our Planets changeing and even improving!

Also, conversely, if we learn how to change and improve our Planets, within, then the reflections of them, in our lives, will be spontaneously more positive and profound.

Let me know how it goes, in your quest for transformation.

Good luck!

Mark Kincaid

ps.... yes, your Venus in the 7th can be a good guide in helping you realize that Venus goes a long way at being more successful in relationships then the Mars approach!

Also, I have found that by understanding the nature of relationships further, Venus is the natural ruler of relationships and 9 out of 10 times, a more successful part of us to flow through.

Venus teaches us about sharing, appreciation, and giving.

These qualities are much more lacking in good relationships then, Mars.

Mars can be interferring with better relationships in a variety of other configurations as well.

I know people who have Mars with their Suns or Moons or even just fully aspecting their Sun's or Moons or even Rising Signs, as in my case.

These people, too have pitta or Mars problems and I see in them, exactly how they are just too Marish.

Mars, however, is an important part of life.

It represents blood, and energy and activity as well as enthuiasm and passion, all of which are very important aspects of life!

Mars, therefore, does not need to be ignored or eliminated.

Instead it needs to be balanced and used in just the right proportions!

Hi, all,

Am new in this group & facinated with the Mars discussion.

I have Mars in Aquarius in ASC aspected loosely by Moon and

tightly by Ketu; have any of you read James Braha's books? In one

he talked about a woman who had Mars in first--he said he would have

expected her to be aggressive but she was one of the gentlest people

he knew. I can identify, can't stand aggressiveness --I think Ketu

burned that out of Mars. But, I have to have lots of physical

activity or it adversely affects health (moon as 6th ruler?). Had a

desk job before and am much happier with an active one! (I am

female, BTW, and am a rural mail carrier now) Also, Mars in first is

a good one for females --read that it makes one look younger than

their age, and I have been told that a lot.

I have heard that 2 people with Mars Dosha should marry. But I

don't think it really cancels out. Actually, look at your own 7th

house its ruler & navamsa and Venus. I have my 7th ruler Sun

conjunct Rahu, and aspected by Saturn; and Saturn is tightly

conjunct Venus. (Venus sub-periods are tough! I learned to work

really really hard to get the good out of 'em) Also a debilitated

Moon in my 7th in navamsa. Whereas my 5th ruler Mercury is aspected

by Jupiter; so, even with Ketu in 5th, well, let's put it like

this: dating a man will give me no clue as to what kind of married

life we'll have. (sounds of jail doors slamming) (Honeymoon is OVER)

I should just date. Of course if I'd known years ago...

One other thing, what do you think?: probably better not to

have the other person's ASC lord as your MMP.

One book had some clues on what house relationship your ASC

ruler & your 7th house ruler has, and your prospective partner's

also. If your prospective partner had Mars and Saturn aspecting

his/her 7th, say, and the 7th lord in a dustana, it may be quite a

different life than the 7th receiving Jupiter and Venus aspects.

A book I read by a Mr Joshi said that love marriages don't need

all the astrological compatibility work (i think he was talking

about kuta, yoni, etc--all the really complicated things), but what

Mr. Braha wrote in his latest book , The Art and Practice of Ancient

Hindu Astrology, was so accurate it had my jaw dropping!

I loved that about telling the guy with Venus in tenth to be

sweet...you know, one of the Gabor sisters said that men love with

their eyes, and women love with their ears. Harsh speech is a

definite romance killer to a woman. Would you want your lady's face

to have a hideous expression toward you? Ears and eyes, remember?

And sweet speech is hard to resist.

Robin ...

I have a relatively new friend (I've known her for about 10 mos. now). She

has Mars smack dab on asc in Virgo along with Neptune. Mars is a wide

square to Mercury. From what I've seen of her, she's very quiet, very

intelligent. She teaches 3rd grade. She's into metaphyshics (she's Navajo

and I think that has much to do with her spiritual background). She doesn't

seem Mars-like at all to me.

However, she's never married (she's in her mid-fifties). She's tremendously

independent. Perhaps that's what Mars in asc in female chart means. You

sound independent, too.

Anyhow, welcome to the group!
