Guest guest
Dear Shri. Prathosh: We have already had some good posts on karma....please follow those up. That will give you an answer to your queries..... One thing I will tell you, " Karma " can be said to operate only when things turn out contrary to your expectations in spite of your having given your best to get the good results.......Otherwise, it is simply being blamed for the outcomes while our own shortcomings can be the culprit. Conscious efforts should be taken to be on the ethical side always, to do our best to our duties, etc. This way one acquires positive " Kriyaamaan " karma. If inspite of this, a person fails, it is his " praarabhda " karmaa. All of us will have some praarabhda to answer in this birth....All of us....including greatest saints and yogis.......The praarabdha can be nullified ONLY BY EXPERIENCING it. The other way is to do intense tapasya (tapasya is not part-time japa chanting; tapasya means you are living heart and soul only in upaasanaas). Such intense tapasya over a period of time will make you free from your karmaas. The best example for this is the legend of Shri Dhuruvaa. He overcame Praarabdha by his tapasya on Lord MahaaVishnu. Free Will comes into play only when there are choices before you.....For instance, as a child, you have no control over whether you go to school or not....your parents may force you either into or out of school! But, once at school, whether you read properly or not, is your free will.(I am not speaking of excelling; I am speaking of the act of learning - do I listen to my teacher, do I try to study, do I do my work conscientiously...). If even after intense efforts, nothing enters my brain and I still lag behind others in my academics, then it is praarabhda at act! These things are interlinked and highly subtle; but you can understand it easily if you just analyze the situations without ego. (Most of the times, most of us feel what " we " do is right and the same thing by others is a mistake! That is why I am saying to analyze the situation without egoistic defences; we have no need to defend ourselves within our mind is it not?) Regarding the scenario of a hungry Tiger and frightened Deer - which should be helped by the man.....It depends on the swadharma of the man concerned. If your swadharma is to protect the meek, attack the tiger and save the deer. If your swadharma is to let things run their natural course, you may ignore the scenario; you will incur no sin. But, if you are a mahatma and in a situation where either of the 3 souls have to meet their end - either the Tiger should die of hunder, the deer should die as a prey to the Tiger, or the Man should offer himself as food to the tiger to save the Deer and also to save the Tiger from dying due to hunger, Great Souls always opt for the last option - that of offering themselves in this situation. Such a person will have no residual karma - good or bad for him! The attitude of such a person will be " The Great Soul inside the Tiger wants Food; The Great Soul inside the Deer impels the Tiger to live; The Great Soul inside me is impelling me to sacrifice this body; so be it if this is God's Will " . Blessed be.
