He is adept in all Vedas , especially Yajurveda which he learnt from Sage Vaishampaayana who himself learnt it from Veda Vyaasa. Once when Vaishampaayana asked Yaajnavalkya to recite Krishna Yajur Veda in the court of local ruler , Yaajnavalkya refused to do so; whereupon Vaishampaayana asked Yaajnavalkya to leave behind what he has learnt so far which was duly obeyed by Yaajnavalkya and this became Thaithireeya Upanishath. Yajnavalkya approached Soorya and by His grace learnt Shukla Yajur Veda , a version of Yajurveda , aka Vaajasaneya Samhitha. Vaajasaneyam = Nithya Annadaanam Yajnavalkya's father is a Vaajasaneya= a nithya annadaani , a perfect host. Yaajnavalkya married Kaathyaayani and Maithreyi.
