By 13 November all British and Egyptian troops had been withdrawn from the country. On 3 December 1955, Egypt and Britain signed an agreement for the referendum on self-determination, but their plans were ignored by the Sudanese who announced the agreement to be unacceptable. When, on 19 December 1955, the Sudanese parliament declared the Sudan to be independent, one year ahead of schedule and without holding the intended plebiscite, neither Egypt nor Britain objected. So, on 1 January 1956, with little fanfare, Sudan became an independent nation. http://www.pjsymes.com.au/articles/sudan.htm Disaster Date Killed Drought 1984 150,000 Epidemic Mar-1988 1,608 Epidemic 1-Aug-1998 1,373 Epidemic 4-Jun-1996 700 Epidemic Jan-1999 435 Epidemic Apr-1989 400 Epidemic 14-Apr-1999 210 Epidemic Sep-1976 150 Epidemic 14-Oct-1998 107 Flood Aug-1998 103 Disaster Date Affected Drought Oct-1991 8,600,000 Drought 1984 8,400,000 Drought Oct-1987 3,450,000 Famine Jul-1998 2,600,000 Flood 4-Aug-1988 2,500,000 Drought Jan-2001 2,000,000 Flood Aug-1999 1,814,900 Drought 1983 1,000,000 Flood Aug-1998 1,000,000 Drought Mar-2000 700,000 Disaster Date Killed Transport Accident 26-Jun-1990 133 Transport Accident 27-Feb-1965 124 Transport Accident 8-Jul-2003 115 Transport Accident 26-Feb-1996 91 Transport Accident 6-Jul-1997 62 Transport Accident 16-Aug-1986 60 Transport Accident 3-May-1996 53 Transport Accident 20-May-1989 50 Transport Accident 20-Oct-1989 50 Transport Accident 23-Aug-2000 50 Disaster Date Affected Misc Accident 10-May-2002 3,500 Misc Accident 14-Apr-1999 1,150 Industrial Accident 23-Feb-2005 154 Misc Accident 18-Feb-2002 63 Transport Accident 23-Jun-2002 59 Transport Accident 17-Mar-2001 50 Misc Accident 8-Nov-2003 48 Transport Accident 7-Sep-2003 45 Transport Accident 4-Jan-2003 40 Transport Accident 30-Nov-1998 37 date type registration operator fat. location pic cat 03-FEB-2005 Ilyushin 76 ST-EWB Air West 7 Sudan A1 19-OCT-2004 Antonov 12 ST-SAD Sarit Airlines 0 Sudan A2 05-OCT-2004 Antonov 12 ST-SAF ?
