Guest guest Posted April 11, 2005 Report Share Posted April 11, 2005 BHOPAL, India (Reuters) - Thirty-five Hindu pilgrims taking a holy dip in a river in Madhya Pradesh were drowned and 25 were missing after a dam upstream released water for power generation, police said on Monday. The incident occurred early on Saturday in Dharaji village in Dewas district, about 200 km west of the state capital Bhopal, where about 300,000 pilgrims had gathered to bathe in the Narmada river, they said. " Thirty-five bodies have been recovered from the river. Rescue operations are in full swing, " Swaraj Puri, Madhya Pradesh's police chief, said.
