The boat is thought to have sailed from the port of Manta in Ecuador. Nine people - seven men and two women - were rescued by a fishing vessel, the Colombian navy said. Search operations are under way. Ecuadorean migrants often use the route across the Pacific Ocean to try to reach the United States.
