Crash of two passenger

trains leaves 10 hospitalized

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP)

-- Officials said that 10 people remained hospitalized Thursday from injuries

suffered in a head-on train collision involving South Africa's famed Blue

Train.

John Dludlu, a spokesman for the railroad, said 44 Japanese

tourists were aboard the Blue Train when it was hit head-on late Wednesday

night by the Trans Karoo Express, another passenger train.

Scores of people suffered minor injuries in the crash, but

Dludlu said that only 10 remained hospitalized Thursday afternoon. He said two

of the Japanese tourists were among the injured. No one was killed in the

accident.

An official with the Northern Cape Province health

department said earlier that five people, including the driver of one train,

were critically injured in the crash at 11:07

p.m (4:07 ET) Wednesday.
