Guest guest Posted December 28, 2005 Report Share Posted December 28, 2005 Wednesday, 28 December 2005, 10:43 GMT Indian bus crash inferno kills 22 At least 22 people have been killed in a collision between a long-distance coach and a lorry in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Reports say the lorry was a chemicals tanker and many of the victims burned to death in the ensuing blaze. The interstate coach was travelling from Ahmedabad in Gujarat to India's commercial capital, Mumbai (Bombay), police said. Six people were also injured, a police official told Reuters news agency. DNA tests Police superintendent GS Malik said the collision occurred near the town of Baruch, 216km (134 miles) south of Ahmedabad. He said most people died of burn injuries. " The bus had only one entry and exit point. As soon as the bus hit the truck, the panicked passengers ran to the back of the vehicle and were trapped when fire erupted from the rear portion, " he told the Press Trust of India. Mr Malik said authorities would be conducting DNA tests to determine the identities of the dead. There were 41 passengers on board the bus.
