miners trapped by blaze

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Seventy miners in Canada have been forced to take refuge in safety

rooms after a fire broke out at their mine.

The fire was extinguished after 20 hours of effort, but the

rescue operation cannot begin until the tunnels are cleared of toxic fumes.

Contact has been made with the miners, and they are all said to

be safe.

The accident happened at 0300 (0900

GMT) on Sunday in Esterhazy,

in Saskatchewan province, as miners worked more than
