Quake rattles buildings

in central Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile (Reuters) -- A medium-size

earthquake shook central Chile on Friday,

rattling buildings, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damages,

officials said.

The quake occurred around 2:50 p.m. local time and could be felt in office buildings in the Chilean capital, Santiago.

On its Web site, the U.S. Geological Survey said that the

earthquake had a magnitude of 4.9 and was centered off Chile's central coast near the port city of Valparaiso.

A 4.9 magnitude earthquake will be felt by most people, and

can break windows, but does not damage constructions, according to the Web site
