both Arizona and New Mexico pertaining to Arizona alone]

1981        Apr 26, In the

largest US bank robbery, more than $33 million was stolen in Tucson Ariz.

 

1991        Aug 10, Nine

Buddhists were found slain at their temple outside Phoenix, Arizona.

 

1997        Aug 9, An Amtrak

train derailed on a bridge near Kingman, Arizona, and 150 of 350 passengers

were injured. A flash flood had undermined supports for a small bridge.

 

1997        Aug 12, In

Arizona a flash flood from a storm 15 miles away killed ten hikers in the Lower

Antelope Canyon near Lake Powell.

 

1998        May 29, Barry

Goldwater, former Senator from Arizona, died at age 89.

 

2000        Apr 9, (0300 GMT) A Marine

Corps aircraft, MV-22 tilt-rotor Osprey, with at

least 18 people aboard crashed at the Avra Valley Airport near Tucson. All 19

Marines onboard were killed in the crash.

 

2001        Aug 10, A

tourist helicopter crashed near the Grand Canyon and 6 people were killed.

 

2002        Jun 18, The

Rodeo Fire began some 110 miles northeast of Phoenix. It soon covered over

60,000 acres including the community of Pinedale.

 

2002        Jun 23, Two

fires in Arizona merged and approached the town of Show Low.

 

2003        Jun 19, In

Arizona a wildfire burned up to 250 homes on Mount Lemon, north of Tucson.

 

2003        Sep 20,

helicopter crashed in the Grand Canyon, 6 died

 

2005        Jun 24, In Yuma,

Arizona, 6 people, including 4 children, were killed.

 

2005        Jul 21, In

Phoenix, Az., a blistering heat wave was blamed for the deaths of 18 people.

Tanker Pilot Killed In Crash During Training Mission

 

15 MAR 02, Midair collision

with a civilian aircraft near Marana airport while conducting routine aerial

training for the US Army's Golden Knights parachute team.

Civilian acft landed safely.

 

22 SEP 86, A/C crashed on

private property SW of the Bisbee-Douglas International Airport during a

training mission from Ft. Huachuca.

 

17 MAR 76, A/C crashed at

Ft. Huachuca while on a MTF and an Annual Instrument Renewal

check ride.
