For ths girl Guru is in enemy's house in Rasi, is 8th lord and debilitated in Navamsha. If the reason for her to be in India is to pursue medicine, I doubt if she will be successful in reaching that goal. Dear Krishna, I thought Mars is related to medicine/surgery and Guru is related to education, learning, philosophy etc. In this chart Mars and Ketu (who also signifies healing) are conjoined in the 2nd house - the house for gain also giver of Master's degree. So, I was not surprised to the reference of the professional astrologer (respected person). I had my own doubt though. Because lagna and 6th (medicine profession)lord Venus (should also be considered in medicine profession as he brought mrita-snajivani, not Guru) is debilitated in 5th (house of education) and conjoined with Guru - the lord of 8th as you said. Further, in navamsa Venus is in lagna but Sun, Mars and Mercury are 5th from it. The latter three planets should help the chart for studies of medicine. Mars being in own house together with Sun-Merc yuti. I further checked the sidhamsa. Here again 7th (house of Ph D) lord Venus is in lagna in the house of Mars who is in 3rd. The 2nd lord Guru is exalted in 9th; excellent for getting at least masters degree - which I guess should be in medicine. Those make me more confused as to give a correct prediction to this friend. This is indeed surprising. The house of healing is the fourth house, the seat of the moksha trikona and the Moon is the Karaka for this. This is justified through Jaimini's slokas: 1.2.87 and 1.2.88. Surgery is indicated by Mars, and when doctors set out to study medicine they do not decide to become surgeons from day one. Surgery is a specialization chosen later on, i.e. Masters or Ph.D. So at least for the initial bachelors education the Moon or Cancer must have a strong influence. Neither of this matters as of yet as the native has not begun studying for their bachelors yet! They are still in high school for another 2 years minimum. First in the rasi chart the conjunction of Mars and Ketu isn't helpful for education as they cause the person to hang out with friends and gangs instead of studying. Mars is lord of the twelfth house and this can manifest during foreign stay. The fourth house is however not affected negatively by the Mars/Ketu combination and this would not be the reason for problems in education. Instead we see that Rahu and Sun afflict Mercury in the fourth house pointing towards a curse of uncle in the house of primary education - fourth house. As Mercury is the karaka for this and joined the combination it will bring misfortune in education as well. Mercury is the fourth lord from Moon as well and will therefore bring separation between mother and the native due to education. Now open the Siddhamsa chart and check the Vimshottari dasa. We have two options for siddhamsa lagna should the child wanto pursue medical studies. Either the lagna is Scorpio housing Cancer in the ninth house and Moon is involved in a Bhishaka yoga (Moon-Mercury) giving education in the use of medicines. The other option is Libra lagna with Mercury lording the ninth and supporting the same yoga. As bachelors hasn't started yet we should look at the fourth house/lord for the primary education: For Scorpio lagna the fourth lord is Rahu (note this) or Saturn. They are joined in the twelfth house of foreign countries/lands and the yoga supports major difficulty in primary-education and breaks if done in a foreign country. For Libra lagna this combination is in Lagna instead and shows the same happening in home country. Now, the concept of home and foreign country are quite blurred in this case as whilst the native was born in India she may have stayed in the US with her mother for some time before joining the studies back in India! Therefore her ACTUAL home is the US where her mother and family is, whilst India has become a foreign country to her, despite her speaking the same language. This situation would support Scorpio Lagna. Yet, if she lived in India and was merely left behind in India to study whilst her mother left for the US then the D24 lagna is Thula. Either way the current dasa of Shani-Rahu is quite detrimental for her studies and the child should be given a Narada-Ganesha Yantra and asked to recite the mantra: Gajananaaya hum| to ensure she can continue her studies. What I understand is that a strong jupiter well connected to Sun would make some one a doctor. I have verified a few horoscopes of doctors and found this to be true. But I thought a good mental state is in general needed for all educations. I missed the fact that Moon is karaka of the 4th house. Thanks for the pointer. In Siddhamsa chart, I believe the lagna is Scorpio. The child spent 7 years with parents in US before leaving for India. She returns to US on vacations. Mostly India is now a foreign country for her. In fact the Saturn in 12th was the major reason for sending her out of parents country of residence. I now guess it would be the Bhishaka yoga for what they were told that she will study medicine. I will pass on your suggested remedies and ask them to postpone their decision until her next antardasa of Jupiter. When Jupiter is connected to the Sun the native develops the knowledge about life forces. When Mercury also involved with this combo, it is even better. Checking from the 4th house of healing may be another way of looking at it, as suggested by Vistiji. Since you asked for examples, I will give you a famous example: Dr. Deepak Chopra. Please do take a look at it.
