In Hindu mythology, the two demons Rahu and Ketu are said to " swallow " the sun during eclipses, snuffing out its life-giving light and causing food to become inedible and water undrinkable. Pregnant women are advised to stay indoors to prevent their babies developing birth defects, while prayers, fasting and ritual bathing, particularly in holy rivers, are encouraged. Astrologers have predicted a rise in communal and regional violence in the days following the eclipse, particularly in India, China and other Southeast Asian nations where it can be seen on Wednesday morning. Guest guest Posted July 22, 2009 Report Share Posted July 22, 2009 Dear Suneel ji, Someone told me recently that she read in some article recently that eclipses hold quiescent for four months and then last for as many years as the visible eclipse lasted proportionally! The recent one, according to that estimation should not begin to express until after late November and should last for 5 years and a bit! She did quote a web magazine but since I have not had the time to verify it, I cannot name the magazine. If this 4 month delay and the rest makes sense based on earlier information or scriptures etc, please comment. If it does not, let us wait to see if they were correct or just more of the same and so on!
