Dear colleagues,

I am unable to understand the reason why the Moon takes different durations to transit the various nakshatras. Can someone please explain?

Respects,

Dear Ramapriya,

Namaskar.

All planets

traverse around any point in an eliptic circle. This is not a perfect circle

and for this reason it spends less time in some positions and more time in

others. For the Moon this implies that it spends more or less time in various

nakshatras. Similarly for the Sun there are also such designations which have

given us the concept of long, middle and short-signs in the zodiac.

So its due

to the eliptical motion. Also the Lagna traverses the signs in different

speeds, based on the lattitude of an individual, and because of this some

astrologers have created different types of bhava-systems like placidus, koch,

etc.

Best

wishes,
