Dear Sanjay,

I concur.

I had a quick lookup through Panchanga Tantra and found nothing to contradict what you've cited, which confirms that I'd got it wrong all along.

Sorry for making you go on a spin on this :o)

Respects,

In Volume 1, Page 152.Dr BV Raman Says " There are 248 vakyas (Vakyas are astronomical formula given in terse sanskrit sutras) for the Moon giving its anamolies which enable one to find the geocentric longitude of the Moon at sunrise on any day. These are called lunar Vakyas. These Vakyas or formulae are very much in use even today in certain parts of Kerala for the determination of the position of the Moon, Nakshatra and tithi on any particular day. The difference (as alluded to in stanza 3 and 7) between 2 consecutive vakyas gives the orbital velocity of that particular planet at sunset..... " This also proves that the tithi changes at the same instant at all places on earth (Since it's now independant of the location on surface of earth). And therefore tithi is Global measure of time. Tithi is hence like Global mean time in Jyotish. Unlike lagna which indicates time past since sunrise/sunset at given location.(This I am writting for another question arising in Vedic-Astrology). Jai SriRama

Hare Rama Krishna

Namaste Venkatesh,

Vaakya here means Mathemetical formula. All mathemetical formulas can

mean Vaakya.

This statement particularly talks about 248 Mathematics formulas to

get the correct Geocentric positions of moon from the observed positions.

I do not have these exact ancient formulaes. Nowadays there are

enough softwares and modern mathematical formulas easily available to

get exact geocentric positions easily.

Please Note that When a body is exactly overhead the geocentic

corrections are not needed. So for Latitudes, Longitudes, and times

when body is not exactly overhead the Corrections are needed.

I think there is some confusion between Vaakya(statement) or

Vaag(word/speach).

Warm regards
