Guest guest
Dear Sanjay, My pranaams to you on the eve of Guru Pournima! I read the notes coming from Serbia (thanks to Sarbani for sharing them!) and they are fascinating. The whole Jyotish world will immensely benefit in the coming centuries from this focussed work by you on chara karakas! > I am still to know > as to where the other definition has come from? I was pretty surprised when this was asked first time and am > still trying to figure out as to how the definition originated and from > where. Any input is welcome. The " other definition " was mentioned to me in a telephone conversation by my beloved guru Pt Sanjay Rath, who mentioned 3 definitions and asked me to include them in my software. So, as far as I am concerned, he is the origin of the definition. In case you don't know Pt Sanjay Rath, he is a great Jyotish Guru from Puri. :- ) ;-) Seriously, the other definition of Sunrise is supported by plain common sense. In astrology, when we plot Sun in various vargas, we use the position of the center of the disk. Thus, that point symbolizes Sun for astrological purposes. Lagna is also called the udaya by Parasara and it is what is rising. When Sun ( " the center " ) is on lagna, Sun is rising astrologically. We can actually discuss this definition later. Can we first discuss the definition that you think was supported by Varahamihira? In a separate mail, I asked for a quote from Varahamihira. I don't find any verse in " Brihat Samhita " that defines sunrise as the apparent rise of upper tip. Please tell me which verse of Brihat Samhita defines sunrise according to you. We can discuss this further then! In case you want to refer to " Brihat Samhita " online, you can go to http://sanskrit.gde.to/doc_z_misc_sociology_astrology/ May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha ------------------------------- Free Jyotish lessons (MP3): http://vedicastro.home.comcast.net Free Jyotish software (Windows): http://www.VedicAstrologer.org Sri Jagannath Centre (SJC) website: http://www.SriJagannath.org ------------------------------- jyotisa , " Guru Sanjay Rath " <guruji@s...> wrote: > |om namo bhagavate vasudevaya| > Dear Ramdas Rao ji > To my knowledge the whole of India uses this definition. Guest guest
Namaste friends, This request is not only meant for Sanjay. If anybody here believes that Varahamihira defined sunrise as the apparent rise of upper limb, please tell me the verse that you believe says so. We can discuss it then.
