Agni tattva is not simply fire and jala tattva is not simply water. They stand for the inherent natures of everything that exists in the universe, including physical matter, people, actions, thoughts - everything. Agni tattwa stands for transformation. Bhoo tattva stands for rigidity and solidity. Jala tattva stands for flexibility. Vayu tattva stands formlessness. Akasa tattva stands for the inexpressible. Take digestion for example. It transforms food into energy. So digestion is of agni tattva. Take the process of seeing. When light falls in your eyes, it is transformed into nervous signals in the eye. Again, vision is of agni tattva. But, after you " see " and " read " this mail, how will you understand it? Take the process that happens in your brain as you " understand " something. Is it a well-defined transformation or something that deals with solidity or flexibility or formlessness? It may have all these in it, but it is mostly an inexpressible process that taps into the God (the inexpressible that pervades everywhere!) in us. So the process of understanding is mostly of aakaasa tattva. Thus these tattvas apply to everything that exists and not just limited to matter. Things having aakaasa tattva have something inexpressible about them and they tap into the God in things. Guest guest
Jaya Jagannath Dear Frank, I agree that the use of the Akshara OM for meditation on Mahavishnu is the path to understanding and realising this Akash Tatwa. This has also been explained in the srimad Bhagavatam.
