Dear Ramapriya & Sarbani, Hare Krishna

Gemstones as a remedy has always intrigued me and its one of the

important and effective remedial measures with only the cost of stones

a real negative.

When I first started out with Jyotish, many visiting 'astrologers'

punted the Navaratna - either worn on the ring or as a medallion -

this to me sounded very commercial. I couldnt buy this beacuse

wearing all the stones will just be amplifying both the negative and

positive placements in the chart, thus not achieving anything, unless

im wrong about navaratnas. Im sure Swee should be able to enlighten

us on what is the most number of stones one can wear at any given time.

Now looking at gemstones from another perspective using this

analogy... If there is a lot of pitta in the body, do we continue to

eat pitta type foods or do we eat pitta pacifying foods. Gems, I

think follows a similar reasoning. The various gemstones do embody

the energies of the different planets and traditionally, the fingers

do represent the various planets, but that doesnt mean that if we seek

a Jupiter remedy we need to amplify Jupiter's finger. This put in

another way, is the gem remedy not supposed to be wearing the

appropriate stone to counter or propitiate the negative effects of the

planet.

Quoting from Swee's website ... www.brihaspati.net/gemstones.htm

" All Jyotish Classics do tell us ..... The gemstones for the planets

from the Sun are: Ruby, Moon – Pearl, Mars – Red Coral, Mercury –

Emerald, Jupiter – Yellow Sapphire, Venus – Diamond, Saturn – Blue

Sapphire

Garuda Purana details the entire account of gemstones, though Agni and

Skanda Purana's literature on this is scanty. Varahamihira also gave a

detailed account, but none of these books gave an account as to HOW

these gemstones CAN be recommended for propitiating. "

I look forward to our experts in this area to enlighten us further.

Better still, we are anxiously awaiting Swee's forthcoming book that

will cover some of these questions. Maybe Swee can share one or 2

secrets on gems. (:-)

All the Best
