Dear Lakshmi,

Very nice photographs, Are Surya and chandra your sons?. How old

are they (birthdata)?. The photos reminded of my last visit, 4

months or so back, to Thirumala. On that day Balaji was not decorated

with any of his usual ornaments, Can you tell the significance. Just

could not remove my gaze from him.

Warm Regards

Sanjay P

Om Gurave Namah

Dear Prabhakara,

Namaste!

You've come to Tirupati and not to my house? It's

certainly my loss that I've not been fated yet to meet

such a nice person like you. I remember that once when

we went to Trichy in 2003, I wanted to meet you ( i

think your father passed away at that time and Guruji

asked me to call on you), but on ringing up your home,

I was informed that you'd already left. Next time you

come to Tirupati, please please do visit us.

Thanks for your sweet comments about the photos and

please keep watching that space for more. Sahasra

deepalankara seva is really really beautiful...and it

comes with chanting of veda mantras and serenading the

Lord with lovely songs and naadaswaram. With the

twilight forming the brilliant backdrop, the whole

thing is so beautiful that often the heart can't hold

back the joy any longer and i always end up crying,

much to the delight of my kids & hubby and to my

chagrin! If you haven't already seen it, please don't

miss it. It is held from 5.30 to 6.00 pm in the

evening, in an open auditorium.

I have two sons,Aditya and Sasank. The first one is 18

years old (B.Tech 2nd year) and the second one is 11

yrs old (7th class). Both look and are proper thugs

and along with my husband comprise my badhaka-trio

:--))...because all of them have mercurian lagnas and

are Bhadra mahapurushas! I have attached their charts,

so you can have a look.

On two occasions, the Lord is with minimum

ornamentation. First, it is on Thursday, when the

ornaments are kept to a minimum and the " naamam " is

thinned out, so that His eyes / aagnya chakra are

visible. It is called nethra darshanam, and loosening

of garments/ornaments is called as " sadalimpu " and

this process is in preparation for the abhishekam of

the moola virat on Friday early morning. The Thursday

darshan is said to be most powerful...and it is

reflected in the naivedyam offered to the Lord. A

huge " anna kumbham " along with various sweets &

delicacies is said to be offered to the Lord from as

far as the bangaaru vaakili or the golden gate. This

is known as " Thiruppavadai " .

Then on Friday morning, after the once-in-a-week

abhishekam, the Lord is clad only in dhoti & anga

vastram upto 7 am and one can have darshan of His holy

feet. This is called " nija paada darshanam " . The great

beauty of he lord can be seen on this day, the

statuesque perfection, the smiling countenance etc.

But, the legend says that the feet are not the real

ones, which are said to extend down to and are in

Viraja river. In fact, legend goes that water used to

flow from the feet of the Lord (like in Ryali) and an

irate priest, tired of swabbing the floor repeatedly,

poured hot lead on the feet of the Lord and the flow

of water ceased from then onwards. Even now, the

priests close to the Lord can hear the sound of water

rushing by and it is also said that the naivedyam

offered to the Lord is thrown behind the idol and no

one has gone behind the Lord to clean it so far. But

there is no bad smell or any such thing.

The Shila Thoranam shown in the photos is a natural

rock archway (formed by stream action) dated 2500

years ago and is one of the two in the world. The

Lord is said to have manifested under this arch.

I think the mail has become very long, so I better

stop being chatty. But then, you have touched upon two

of my most favourite things, The Lord and my kids:--))

With affectionate regards,

Lakshmi
