Guest guest
हरे राम कृष्ण॥ Dear Shanda, Namaskar In the parampara we are taught to respect omens all the time. In fact we practice analyzing omens between classes by walking down the streets and analyzing everything that happens. This and discussing each others observations make for good practice. The Sun rules over the sky or bhuvaloka and its rays are called kSaya as they scorch the earth that it touches. pa-kSa refers to that which protects (pa from palana and also a marut-beeja) through the suns rays (kSa). From this is derived pakSi or bird from the vowel 'i'. So the birds protect from the sky or protect the sky itself. So benefics in pakSi drekkana shows overall protection and particularly this is the protection against Asuras as the Sun has the purpose of protecting/promoting the Suras and leading away from the path of Asuras, i.e. away from the path of darkness (sura=surya). Sri Garuda is worshiped for this exact purpose and is the king among birds, thus signified by the Sun. Mercury on the other hand is a messenger and thus a parrot, and can be equated specifically with a strong sun associated with Mercury. However, not all birds are parrots infact only very few are.
