Dear Members,

 

Namaste.

 

I just got a phone call from Lakshmi Cary who is also member of our lists. She

also got

one of the viruses that appeared on our lists recently and asked me to warn all

of you

once again.You see, if the computer of one of ous is infected with a recent

virus, the

thing that they do is copy themselves into e-mail attachments and send them to

all the

addresses that you have in your mailbox, even without your knowledge. Therefore

I would

suggest a few simple guidelines to keep ours and others' computers free of

viruses:

 

1. Don't open any attachment if you are not completely sure about its contents!

Especially

if the attached file is not of any known extension like .doc, .txt, .jpg etc. It

might be

a Virus. The best thing is just to delete it from your computer. If you still

want to open

it, then scan it beforehand with a recently updated Antivirus Program.

 

2. Don't send attachments to the lists unless it's absolutely necessary, and if

you do,

then please make notice of it in your letter including the name and extension of

the file!

If the message body is empty, then the attachment is even more suspicious to be

a virus!

 

3. Please install an antivirus software on your computer, and update it

regularly! Most of

the known Antivirus Softwares like Norton Antivirus, McAffee, InuculateIt, etc.

Virus Updates weekly or even more often. An outdated program will not save you,

as dozens

of new viruses appear every day on the Internet. This is necessary, because some

Viruses

are not spreading as attachments, but are included in the message, like the

Kak.hta worm

virus that Andrew Lynn sent several times to the VA list, obviously without

knowing it.

 

Remember, that Mercury's transits affect computers and Internet very

sensitively,

therefore we should be on guard. My personal choice of free Antivirus Software

is

InoculateIt by Computer Associates, which can be downloaded from

http://www.antivirus.cai.com/
