Guest guest
JAYA JAGANNATHA! Dear Jaan, Namaste. > Is anyone familiar with the measurement of aspect strength by virupas? > How credible is it? Yes, it is. Maharishi Parashara gives three methods for judging the aspects: Graha Drishti, Rasi Drishti and Sphuta Drsihti. The last one is mentioned by you. Graha Drishti and Rasi Drsihti have some substantial differences both in meaning and usage. Rasi Drsihti will indicate a karmic necessity of one house influencing the other one and the planets posited in them doing the same. So it's effect is sure to materialize. As you may have noticed, degrees are not used in Rasi Drishti, as a whole Rasi aspects a whole one. Similarly when we use Arudha Padas or Argala or Badhaka for that matter we use whole signs. This is again a proof that the Maharishis recommended the system where the signs coincide with the houses. Otherwise these tools have no meaning. On the other hand, Graha Drishties with one, two, three or four feet (including the special aspects by Rahu, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter) may be different in strength, but the effect is still calculated on the basis of signs and not degrees. So the third method, Sphuta Drishti, where the strength of the aspect is determined on the basis of the orb of the aspect is a finer variant of Graha Drishti and may be used for fine-tuning it. So no one is saying that you should not use it. The only thing is that it's very cumbersome to calculate it unless your software odes it for you correctly, and the results can't always be given credibility. The point is that Graha Dristi alone may only indicate a desire for someone signified by the given planet to influence some area of the native's chart, but if there are no other factirs confirming it (like Rasi Dristi, Parivartana or other yogas), the desire will be hardly realized. Therefore, if you want to give correct predictions, then first of all consider Rasi Drishties and their influence and don't laways trust a single Graha Dristi to give effect. > Im told it is a Parashara method used for accurate measurement of > aspect strengths. > Is it better to use this method than to use the method of counting by > rasi signs? All three are useful with the above guidelines taken into consideration. > Ive found that the strength of an apsect can vary greatly using the > virupa system of measurement. > > for example if Jupiter is 10 degrees in capricorn and aspect taurus > lagna, depending of where exactly taurus lagna is, the virupa strengh > can vary from maximum of 60 when lagna is 10 degrees taurus to as low > as 25 ( out of 60 ) when lagna is 28 degrees in taurus. > > By counting rasis we have that jupiter aspects lagna fully in both > cases, but using virupa measurements we have that when lagna is 28 > degrees in taurus jupiters aspect on lagna is quite weak. > > what virupa strength would be considered a strong aspect strength? > out of 60 ) The srtonger the bigger the effect is. This is for fine-tuning the effects. But you should consider the comparative strengths of the planets. Because if a strong planet aspects a weak one with a weak aspect, still its influence may be strong on it. > the same applies to planet aspects with respect to each other. > say jupiter is 14 degrees in aries and venus is 26 degrees in virgo, > by rasi counting we would have that the aspect strength of venus on > jupiter is three quarters. ( 8th house aspect ) > with virupa measurement we have that venus aspect on jupiter is 51 > out of 60 ) which is stronger that by rasi counting, and almost equal > to a full 100 percent aspect strength. No. Three quartes, expressed in Virupas will be 45. This is not so much different from 51. So Sphuta Drishti is for fine-tuning. > do we take this into account? > which measurement to we give weight to? > what happens when rasi counting reveals minimum aspect, but virupa > measurement reveals a very strong aspect? First see Rasi Drishti, the Graha Drishti, and Sphutam is the 3rd one. If the 1st is absent, then be suspicious of the effect really taking place. If the second is weak, then no use bothering with sphuta. But if the 1st and 2nd are present, you can go ahead and judge the extent of the exact effect by Sphuta. Guest guest
Dear Jaan, Namaste. > one more query regarding it? > > you say it is to fine tune an aspect, so in one case say venus > aspects the 8th from it with a strength of 51 virupas and in another > case aspects the 7th with the same strength of 51 virupas > > are they both considered equally strong aspects or does the seventh > house have more strength? > I would say that the 7th aspect is stronger. All three types should be considered simultaneously.
