Guest guest
Dear Gurudev, Please accept my respectful obeisances. Jaya Jagannath! May I ask you a little question. I never studied Western Astrology - just have some general idea. It seems to be a typical Western semi-empirical science which on itself has no profound spiritual significance and has typical limitations of all Western "-logies". Of course the personality of Astrology is a deciding factor - after all Krishna gives the power of intuition even to those who don't know any astrology at all. So I don't wonder that it can work. My question is that as they have Tropical Zodiac which is so much shifted from the Fixed one - WHAT IN THE WORLD DO THEY CALCULATE? Do the planetary positions in these calculations have any meaning according to Vedic siddhanta? your shishya, Yasomatinandana das
Guest guest
Dear YND, No they don't have a reference and hence their time concept is all over. We havea very elaborate Brahma Vidya from where we know of the Yugas and hence have a definite date for the start of Kali and zero Ayanamsa point etc. No meaning at all. The western wheels are but a symbolic representation (Geo centric) of the heavens as they look to the naked eye. They don't know where the system is headed (i.e. no ayana like we have Abhijit). Don't blame them. They lost it all fighting too many wars. The fact that they use progression i.e. a year in the life of Humans is equal to a day in the life of Gods shows a very rudimentary stage of Jyotish knowledge (Manu Smriti) was somehow retained by the system. Pars Fortuna is like Punya Saham showing the interaction between the Vedic system and the western world where they learnt about sensitive points.
