Guest guest
Subject: Lesson #6 Attempt Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 11:53:46 -0600 Sat Siri Khalsa <akath To: varahamihira (AT) eGroups (DOT) com Dear jyotisha, (Note: it seems to me that the controversy that has arisen over the " mean " hora advocated by Sanjay ji and the " true " hora is akin to the dispute between those who favor the traditional mean Varshaphal and the Westernized thinkers who advocate the true solar return, or again, it is like the debate whether to use the mean nodes or the " true " nodes. It seems that a deep gulf exists between the principles of division that stand behind these techniques and the empirical reality that emerges when they are exactly applied , down to the last syllable of recorded time, to borrow from Shakespeare. So there must be an important conclusion to be drawn that in cases such as these it is the principle rather than the empirical reality which is the powerful arbiter of meaning and significance in life. One can argue endlessly about mean versus true solar returns, but I think everyone in this class who has compared the results attained using the mean nodes rather than the true nodes, especially in the divisional charts, can attest to the superiority of the mean nodes in determining such vital matters as the timing and gender for births of children, for example. Perhaps it is something that has to come from experience, to learn to look to the principle of the thing rather than the " scientific " approach always.) Question 1 (hora of birth and its effects) Given my birth time, Aug 10 '48 15:34 EDT Philadelphia Pa USA , my birth hora lord, mean or true is Venus. Attaining by the mean method, starting from 6 am Local Mean Time. My city is 5 0 39 by Local Mean Time so it does not differ much from standard time. 6 am on a Tuesday is Mars hora. Birth is in the 10th hour of the day and this is Venus's. Venus is 12th lord and I live as part of an ashram community. Venus is 12th lord in 8th and my interests are in esoteric knowledge of spiritual matters coming from a foreign country--India. Venus is seventh lord in a dual sign in 8th house and I am in a second marriage. Question 2 (project begun in hora of the tenth lord) Second assignment is to keep track for six months of work project undertaken in hora of tenth lord, that would be Sun for me. Today is Tuesday, Mars day and Sun is the second hora which it happens to be right now, so I should start something and record the time. I hope it can be continuing something I am already working on. Question to track will be, when will it be completed? I am doing a prasna for now, in the hora of the tenth lord, and will track how it shows completion of the work. Question 3 (oath of office of government) I think it is to show how the swearing-in chart of the current administration reflects the course of events. The oath of office for Bill Clinton's second term was given at 12:05:41 on Jan 20 1997 in Washington DC. See attached chart in following e-mail. As Washington is 77 West, one must add approximately eight minutes to get Local Mean Time, so time would equate to 12:13 pm EST. This would be the hora, starting on a Monday with Moon at 6 am, of Mercury. Moon and Mercury together can spell infidelity. In the chart Moon is opposite Venus conjunct Mercury and both are squared by Mars-Rahu, all in common signs so all inter-aspecting by graha and rashi drishti. This well describes the tangle Clinton got into over the Monica Lewinsky affair which was hugely magnified by media meddlement, another Mercury matter. Saturn is part of this grand cross. Saturn is the tenth lord and its full graha aspect and rashi aspect on Mercury show the inability for anything effective to be accomplished during the second term, except gradually, and the types of things that will only show in the long perspective of history. Mercury's rule of the sixth house shows the cause of health care reform and its failure during the administration. Mercury's rule of the third shows the many short trips undertaken by the president and the Moon there shows his succssful role as mediator and negotiatior in foreign affairs. The involvement of badly afflicted Mars shows the botched military impetus for example in Kosovo and the utter failure with regard to intervention in African genocide. .. What does Mercury the hora lord show with regard to the succession after this administration? Mercury is the sixth lord and is in the Shatrupad and so is fully representative of his political enemies. But it is afflicted by Saturn Rahu Mars and Ketu. Fifth lord Sun shows the chosen successor and is in dik bala in swakshetra accompanied by ninth lord Jupiter who is in parivartana with tenth lord Saturn--so a change of status in the offing from near extinction through impeachment to electoral vindication? Mercury has argala with this successful Sun. Mercury also aspects the A5 into its own sign of Gemini. This Mercury is conjunct within 2.5 degrees Al Gore's lagnesh Moon. Question 4 (giving the Guru Mantra in which bhava or arudh) I already seem to be involved in writing and teaching in this area and hope by grace of God and Guru to continue. When you ask about giving the Guru Mantra I hesitate because I am not really sure what you mean by this. I feel very unqualified in this realm. Also as a Sikh I am not sure what are the best mantras for me to receive and to give. Once that is more illumined for me I would think about the part of relating to the Bhava or the Arudh Pada of the Bhava that the teacher must take both into account. The bhava is the actual state of mind relating say to mantra. But the arudh pada is how the mantra will affect the student in the maya of her life. The teacher should take both into account to help the student find the right relationship between reality and her behavior. Some students are not ready or willing to accept a mantra and the teacher must find the right practice for what the student can accept. Question 5 (negotiating and occupying a new home) For entering a new house the hora of the fourth lord is the key. In my case it is Rahu as lord of the fourth but Rahu does not have a hora. I would probably take Venus because Venus is in a nakshatra exchange with Rahu. Venus has shubhargala on the fourth house. Venus is lord of the seventh house, which is fourth from the fourth. For negotiations the third-ninth axis are important. My ninth lord is Moon and Moon is my bhadaka lord which is bad in general but there is one exception: when Moon is bhadakesh and is in twelfth house that is supposed to be good. That applies here so I could probably use Moon horas as good for negotiations. Question 6 (when to see a doctor) Lagna lord for doctors (I have seen other replies!)---but since my lagna lord is Ketu which has no hora, hmmm. Maybe Moon because it is associated with lagnesh. Jupiter in lagna would not be good as it is a maraka. Perhaps Mars as co-lord of lagna and situated in Arudh Lagna. Mars seems best. Question 7 (when to see a jyotishi) To see a jyotishi probably Jupiter as AK in lagna would be best choice for hora/day. Also good could be Sun as Amatyakaraka in ninth with rashi/graha drishti of Jupiter. I spoke to Sanjay accidentally on a Sunday at high noon! Jupiter hora! Question 8 (when given an inauspicious interview time) Supposing there is no chance to change the time, I would resort to japa. When Guru Arjun Dev was stuck in compiling Adi Granth, he chanted as in Sukhmani Sahib: Ad Sach Jugad Sach Hebhe Sach Nanak Hosi Bhe Sach Question 9 (when spouse threatens divorce) To reconcile and to prevent marital mishap the day and the hour of Upapada Lord are auspicious. In my case Rahu, so Saturday, and again, Venus hora seems best. Venus is in nakshatra exchange with Rahu. Venus is also seventh lord, in rashi and navamsa. Lord of Upapada in navamsa is Capricorn containing Moon and Venus, so again Venus. Sorry for the lateness of answering. Sincerely, Sat Nam, Sat Siri Kaur
