CHAANDRAMAANA VAISAAKHA SUDDHA CHATHURDASI

HiraNya Kashipa , son of Kashyapa Brahma and

Dithi , is the elder brother of

Hiranyaaksha who was killed by Yajna Varaaha Vishnu .

 

HiraNya Kaship is a Shiva Baktha , a disciple of

Brahma , but Anti Vishnu. His wife , Leelaavathi

whilepregnant was abducted by Indra , but rescued

by Devarshi Naarada Mahamuni. Naarada Maharshi

saw through the confinement of Leelaavathi , all the

while narrating Vishnu stories. In due course

Leelaavathi gave birth to a son , Prahlaada.

Naarada Muni restored Leelavathi and Prahlaad

safely back to HiraNya Kashipa.

 

To the chagrin of Anti Vishnu HiraNya Kaship ,

his son Prahlaada became an ardent

Vishnu Devotee.

HiraNya Kaship tried by all means ,Saama , Daana ,

Bedha and Danda Upaayas - that is by cajoling,

by being nice and finally by severe punishment ,

but failed to turn Prahlaada away from Vishnu .

 

The matters reached a point of no return and when in

a fit of uncontrollable rage HiraNya kaship kicked a

pillar in his mad search for Omnipresent Mahaa Vishnu ,

God appeared as A Man Lion ( NARA SIMHA) ,

killed HiraNya Kaship and saved Prahlaada , whose

grandson Bali was promised Indra Position ..
