Guest guest
Jaya Jagannath Dear Pearl, The trick to SUCCESS in any activity in life is to hang on to it. When you are bombarded with the maximum amount of knowledge, then the learning curve is very steep and rising. When there is nothing new, then the curve has a plateau and no growth. As regards Sanskrit, you should not hesitate to ask. Now that you have done, Sarajit has answered a few and the learning continues. PARAKRAMA: Bravery, Chivalry, making efforts to succeed in competitions etc. for material gains. AHIMSA: This is derived from HIMSA or to kill, maim, hurt etc. being violent. " A " is an anti-thesis or reverses the meaning and thus AHIMSA is the opposite of Himsa and means being non-violent. SHANTI means Peace and is associated with AHIMSA. VALMIKI was the author of the Ramayana. He was a murderer and dacoit and used to kill passerby for making a living. One day he caught hold of some Monks and the Monks agreed to being killed on one condition. They asked Valmiki to check if his wife and children will also share the sins that he incurred since he was doing all these henious deeds to feed the family. His wife and children declined to do so. Dejected with life Valmiki decided to renounce the life and freed the saints. As a mark of their love, the saints asked him to recite the mantra " MA_RA " which means KILLING. When he continued to recite this, the mantra changed automatically to " RA_MA, andit gradually changed him to the saint. Dear Sanjay, thank you for inviting me to your class on Jyotish. Since joining I have been reading all the messages and wondering if it would be possible for me to understand all that you are talking about without knowing your native Sanskrit. I am Irish and have no background in this subject or the philosophy behind it. My hunger for Jyotish was ignited on the 1st weekend of my Ketu (12th/GE) dasha when I attended a Beginners class in London. Since then I devote time every day to it and love it. As the Arudha Lagna is something that I am presently researching I was delighted to read the questions and also the replies except for my big problem of not knowing the English meaning of some of the words and phrases used. For example in your reply you used the words Parakrama, Ahimsa, Valmiki. To me these words could mean anything. Peoples names , states of being, etc!! Therefore, I would be most grateful to you and the other particpants if you would include the English word beside the Sanskrit term when discussing a subject. I am aware that this puts extra work on you but it would be such a blessing to me. You cant know how frustrating it becomes reading through really valuable information and missing the main point. On your website also I have experienced the same problem and have decided to leave it for now. There is so much to learn and only a limited amount of time. >From the discussions I gather you are writing a new book, I would love if it was a beginners guide with a really good dictionary. The texts recommended I have, but you bring an deeper meaning to each subject that you discuss and I would love to hear your basic teaching on all these characters that have such a powerfull influence on our lives and why. For me learning Jyotish is a spiritual thing. The more I learn the more devotional my life has become. Thanks for listening and for making this opportunity available to me.
