Dear Richard,

Namaste

The word Pulaka also means an insect or vermin of a naga, of kuvera

(deformed body).

The colours mentioned in there are: honey, fire, plantain tree, colours of

shell etc. This means that gomeda should really be pulaka.

As stated in the classics: Rahu is chaya graha and therefore takes on the

energy of that planet wherever it is place. In Brohat Parasara Hora Sashtra,

Ch 55 On the effects of antardasa of Rahu (Ranja Publications), that Rahu

bodes well in Cancer (Pink), Scorpio (reddish brown), Virgo (variegated) or

Sagittarius (Tawny) or is associated with an exalted yogakaraka. Rahu does

not bode well in the 2nd or 7th houses or its association with lords of the

2nd and 7th....and much distress if in the 8th or the 12th or if it is

associated with malefics.

Hence, Rahu's gem is NOT hessonite, but should be pulaka - garnet family.

Love,

Swee

Re: PICS: Mount Kailash and Kailash Shila

Dear Swee,

I'm pretty sure Chap. 77 is red garnet, because two other English

translations (including

Mani Mala) also give the gem as garnet. And it matches the description. It's

interesting to

see how many of the black transparent shalagrams are just water tumbled

garnet crystals.

As you know real Shalagram Ammonite is always opaque. But lots of people

worship

garnet crystals without knowing. Red garnet is available in Nepal, but not

in quantities like

India and Africa. A lot of round Shalagrams I saw were transparent black red

and they were

not genuine Shalagram Shila. BUT, they were genuine red garnet, and that's

pretty cool

too.

Best rgds,

Richard
