Guest guest
Pranaam Sanjay, Sri Goel's article on "Upagrahas" in the latest "Jyotish News" is excellent. But I don't think the formulas of Vyatipata and Indrachapa are correct. If you change + to - in the formula of Indrachapa, it will make some sense and it will match Santhanam's formula in his translation of BPHS. Still it is incorrect. What you gave in your Jamini book is correct. Parasara, Phaladeepika etc agree on it. (1) Correct (Parasara, Phaladeepika, Sanjay Rath's Jaimini book): Dhuma = Sun + 133 deg 20 min Vyatipata = 360 deg - Dhuma Parivesha = Vyatipata + 180 deg Indrachapa = 360 deg - Parivesha Upaketu = Indrachapa + 16 deg 40 min Sun = Upaketu + 30 deg (yes!) (2) Santhanam (incorrect, but consistent): Dhuma = Sun + 133 deg 20 min Vyatipata = Dhuma + 53 deg 20 min Parivesha = Vyatipata + 180 deg Indrachapa = Parivesha - 53 deg 20 min Upaketu = Indrachapa + 16 deg 40 min Sun = Upaketu + 30 deg (yes!) (3) Goel (incorrect & inconsistent - math breaks down): Dhuma = Sun + 133 deg 20 min Vyatipata = Dhuma + 53 deg 20 min Parivesha = Vyatipata + 180 deg Indrachapa = Parivesha + 53 deg 20 min Upaketu = Indrachapa + 16 deg 40 min Sun = Upaketu + 30 deg (nope!) JHLite 1.1 supports only (1). In JHLite 2.0, I am giving an option between (1) and (2). I will ignore (3), because it is obviously wrong (perhaps a typo).
